twins?

judging by the mods in my sig, do you guys think my current turbo would be a good one for the first in line in a compound set up? then maybe throw an HT3B under it, and get some different injectors? what do you think?

60/71? Is this a Borg S300 or a modified Holset?

It's a modified H1C. Bought some gillet diesel parts and made my turbo better. Can hit over 45#s boost at WOT with the way in set up now. It's a 14cm turbine housing for quicker spool and a 60mm compressor wheel and housing.

I've been wanting twins all my life. I just can't afford them, nor would I know what to do with them..

Wastegate? I assume non-wastegated.

I was going to run a 351/ht3b on my 91, would have been a great towing/quick spool setup for relatively cheap.

Many run the 351/475 or 351/ht3b and they work really well.

351 is a 60/58/9, somewhat choked on the turbine but does surprisingly well on all trucks including the 3rd gen crowd.

I would think you would want a wastegate, you can get an external wastegate exhaust manifold. External is the preffered way.

Yes I am currently non wastegate. Reason being is I didn't want to have to change the down pipe at the time of the turbo rebuild, just wanted to get a little more out of it.

I wouldn't mind reading up on some other first gen twin turbo builds, if anybody knows of one feel free to post up the link to it.

A wastegated housing doesn't require a different downpipe.

The 60mm upgrade is the HE351/Super 40 wheel. That is a known good compressor to hit 400hp on a 12v VE.

I guess I thought it would push it back towards the firewall too much...

it will hit 400 by itself? or when paired with another turbo?

You don't need twins with your setup unless you tow really heavy. Sounds like you're doing pretty well where you're at now! I'd add timing if you're looking for more power.

When DW turned forty, I exposed a desire to trade her in on 2 twenties.

She politely notified me that I wasn't wired for 220.

Negatory. The 60mm upgrade wheel only has an 82mm exducer where as the Super 40/HE351 has an 86mm exducer.

That could be better though especially if you dropped to a 12cm hot side. The smaller wheel has less mass to get turning and is easier to turn so it could spool faster than a 60/86 wheel.

This isn't about what I need, this is about what I want. So.... I'll decide.

I was simply asking opinions on whether or be my current turbo would be good in a compound set up. Sounds like probably not.

P.S. I have bumped the timing already it's just not in the sig.

well geez, just tell us what you want to hear so we know what to say!

IMO and what i've witnessed many times is that the stock hx-35 is a great turbo to pair with the ht3b. i only suggest this as a stock hx35 would get you a good cheap turbo with a wastegated housing to put in a compound setup. I would shelf that good 60/71 turbo as a backup to have in a "just in case" scenario.

i think what has been mentioned is that your current 60/71 turbo is a better turbo as a single and would support in the 400 hp range on it's own but not the best suited for compounds. I have also read numerous accounts of big wheel h1c's not handling big hp/boost/drive pressure numbers, such as those in a compound setup.

What would It take to make my h1c support 400 horse? Different set of injectors?

You're going to be hard pressed to make 400 with an H1C. A 62mm upgrade might get you there with big sticks and loads of timing. It would be hot and smoky for sure.
