04.5, 325/600, 6 speed. I would recomend this truck, I have been very happy with power and mileage. Only has been back to the dealer once last friday for u joints and carrier bearing nothing I did not plan on (45k). As JThiessen mentioned has 7/70 warranty so all was covered. This being my 3rd CTD, one of each gen. I would look into maintence as much as possible.

sorry this is going to sound dumb but i'm just starting to learn whats 305/555 and 325/600 mean?
also in '03 the drivetrain only had 3/36000 warr?
i've got my eye on an '03 anything else to look for?

My 03 has run great! The only thing that I had done for warranty work was getting the front doors adjusted, they were leaking air really bad. Like several others have mentioned, I too have friends with 03's that had to replace U joints, all covered under warranty. So far, my U joints look good though. Highly recommend.

I have 35,000 on my 03 and so far I have had one problem. I had a master cylinder leak, fixed under warranty. Other than that no problems. I have some mods but nothing to extreme.

I have a 2003 I just bought and the steering wheel does seem to vibrate??? How do I go about getting that fixed? Is it a recall? Thanks

I responded to your PM also. It isn't a recall, but a service bullitin, which is essentially a memo to service technicians about a known problem that some trucks have and info on how to correct the issue if they come across a vehicle with that specific problem.

If the hose between the PS pump and hydrobooster has a big weight mid-span, the TSB has been done. If it's a plain run of hose, and your vibration happens at around 2000 RPM, I'd get it done.

If your truck is under warranty, it should be covered. Even if it isn't under warranty, if you have a good relationship with the dealership, it wouldn't hurt to ask... Otherwise, you could just buy the updated hose and some fluid and do it yourself...

I have 75k on my SO and have been pretty much problem free. I encountered my biggest issue last week, even this was simple. My headgasket was starting to leak slightly, took it to the dealer and they fixed it under warranty no questions asked.

I don't want to threadjack here but I have a quick question, when finding out what model tranny you have how do you determine if it is the 47re or the 48re? I thought it went by the month of the truck but I wasen't sure (mine was made in 03/03). Thanks.

Look in your glove box and the factory sticker should be there. It will list the trucks build specs. Otherwise if your door sticker manufacture date says 03/03 and your not in Cal. you most likely have a 305 Hp/555 TQ motor which all came with the 48Re tranny. Also on the plastic valve cover it will list the motor HP. I have got a list of CPL (control parts list) numbers that cummins uses, it is the last box on the valve cover.

I have a SO truck with a 48re. If your build date is 03/03, you almost certainly have a 48re also. They used up the remaining 47re trannys sometime in late January or early February of 2003.

If you want to verify, look at the glovebox tag. There are two tranny codes, and one will always be DG8. If the second code is DGA, you have a 48re. If it says DGP, then you have a 47re.

I guess I have the 48re then, the first code says DGA then the tag below it says DG8. I'm releived now, all this time I owned my truck I thought I had a 47re, I was going to have to head down to the Dodge dealer and pick up a Mega Cab w/ a 6 spd.
