Well, I am getting ready to change out my top turbo exhaust housing to the new ported version they have available. I am still thinking that these turbos are just not big enough for my truck. My EGT's will rocket under WOT, and I cannot clean up my smoke! However, I will be pulling all of my boots off to check the compressor wheels and make sure everything is still in good shape. I have gone through one top and one bottom turbo so far and they were awesome about swapping them out. I also had to replace the exhaust manifold once already as it was leaking at the ball joint.

I will post back after I change the exhaust housing to see how things go!

I have the updated version also ^^^. I still have smoke with mine too but depending how much throttle I give and how long I'm into it before the bottom turbo spools up which will turn into a heavy to light haze. Plus I'm only running 90 stix.

To answer one of your ?? from awhile back, when the overall boost is say 40#, bottom will be 15-20#'s. So, basically half of overall boost when over 25#'s and up.

Crash, did you ever make a brkt to support the bottom turbo?? I did for mine while in the process of install.

Nope, still haven't made a bracket. I am pulling all of my hoses tomorrow to see what my shaft play looks like. I just made a trip back from SLC to Idaho FAlls, and at 85mph on flat ground I was running 1050* and any incline I could see 1350+ and that scares me. I am hoping for something silly. I just don't know. . . I need to clear out my Drive Pressure boost line toi see what that is doing. Hopefully something really easy will work.

Might just be time to sell this thing and start over or just buy something else to Daily Drive!

With mine runnig on flat frwy 85-90, around 900-925 egt's and going up a grade maybe 1050-1100 depending if I'm passing some slow asp and boost goes up to 20psi then the bottom turbo will speak up and egt's will drop down..tht's at an incline.

On my set, egt's aren't really an issue unless I really stomp on it at 85-90 mph, then the bottom turbo can't really catch up fast enough.

Here's an example. Early one sun. morning was up near Bakersfield (99 frwy) and was in fast lane doing 85mph. Came up on a Jetta and wouldn't move over as I approached. I changed lanes and when was just ahead of him, I hit my train horns. I went back over into fast lane asap leaving the Jetta in some smoke and putting a little distance in between him. About a mile later he was coming up hard. When he got up to me, got a thumbs up and then proceeded to try and take me. I stomped on it and started pulling away at a good clip. I heard his turbo whistling...I stayed into it, pegging the speedo at 120mph. I had at least a mile on him mean while my egts' where hitting 1500-1600, backed off wot and thought I broke my speedo 'cuz it didn't move at 1st., then it started to come back down.

Let the Jetta catch back up and rolled his window down asking w*f did I do to this truck, it's freakin' fast. I guess I shocked the heck out of him.

Went for it again, this time he down shifted to try and take me out. I still pulled away and pegged the speedo and egt's. This time one of my buddies timed it to see how long it took for the speedo to come off 120mph....8 sec.

BTW, my vb isn't working properly. Before the screwing around, my norm. driveing habits only netted me 14mpg when I usually get 22-23mpg on the same route. My 2-3 shift slips when on the throttle kinda heavy but when driving norm. it shifts fine. When I had problems with the 1st vb, I installed a line press. gauge to verify for ATS on the readings. When I installed the replacement, it held 78-83psi range all the time. Now, it's 70-110psi depending on throttle usage. ATS is trying to sidestep the problem. I did what they suggested and wasn't any problems on the other item. Gotta call again and see what they say.

Hi Guys, any more updates on this. I am seriously considering this setup for the price as they are only a few miles away. They insist they will work with me until I feel it is right.

thanks!

You still have a stock trans.?? IMO, better invest in a trans. 1st, then get the turbos, bigger stix, fuel pump....alot more can be done before the twins.

Yes, still have the stock trans. I am not buying this setup for HP, I am buying it for EGT reduction and better fuel mileage. I tow about 95% of the time and I am tired of letting off the gas because EGT's are too hot. (I let off at 1450)

Ok...^^. I just got done hooking/wiring up a toggle switch to beable to lock up the conv. at will...that made a big dif. on power delivery which in turn would keeps egt's a bay when towing, I would think...haven't towed anything yet....

But I was in the same boat as you are...but at the same time I went for the power, also...I had an aftermarket trans./conv. that didn't hold up so I had to replace it with a better one (hopefully the best-goerend items), the point on this is for the conv. lock switch...it's not recommended for a stock trans.

I gotta go to work...will add more info. if you want my opinion(s)..

Absolutely!

Well it's a done deal. I ordered the twins today from Bret at Diesel Power Source. I get them tomorrow. I don't know how soon I will get them on. Maybe this Saturday! Anybody near West Jordan, UT want to have a wrench party?

I just checked to see if anything else has been posted on this thread...wasn't notified via email about ^^^.

Ask me anything, hopefully I'll have an answer for you...maybe. Right now my truck is running real good, except for my boost (overall) gauge, after it hits 45 it'll go into a hissy fit (between 45-55, needle flutters)...gotta pull it and clean it out or might have a leak with the rubber tubes.

That's the only thing I don't like about the kit, I'd rather have steel which I've been in the process of fabbing up.

Bhoth, you might want to fab up a brkt for the bottom turbo for support. I've talked with Brad on this and he still believes it doesn't need it. IMO too much wieght hanging off the manifold which down the road could cause leaks.

Well I started the teardown on my truck last night. The only thing I have left is the stock exhaust manifold/ turbo. It looks like they need to come out in one piece. I am also putting in the direct fit Pac brake while I am in there.

A cherry picker/engine hoist comes in very handy, instead of elbow grease..Are you able to do any fabricating-making a brkt/brace for the bottom turbo?? I have some pic of mine that I could send via email, just pm me your addy.

I went as far as taking off the fender so I wouldn't scratch/dent it, makes it alot easier to get in there for wrenching, took the wheel off too.
