51” Donaldson, remove baffle?

OK, guys.... just got my 51” Donaldson to replace my strait pipe. The strait pipe is just getting old. It sounds good a low RPM’s in town, but is annoying going down the highway and in the woods.

Should I remove the baffle in this thing or put it on as it is? Any one ran it either way or both?

I punched mine out. I don't think you'll need it.

What kind of pyro numbers did you start seeing after the install? (how much higher then before?)

i dont get it- my previous free flowing, no baffle, you could see straight through it muffler i had before from hog performance didnt howl or anything. it was just obnoxious. the donaldson causes like a howling sound when cruising or accelerating now its weird. probably going back to the hog performance piece, so a donaldson is up for sale LOL. 3 weeks old.

The Donaldson is so restrictive that it clogs up? I never heard of any muffler doing that. How does it compare to a strait pipe (mine is an 4.5 & I still have the kitty).

Well, I knocked the baffle open. The inner baffle is a perforated 4" pipe that has the end crimped shut so the flow has to go through the perforations.

It took a little effort, but I was able to open the crimp up to about 80% of the 4” dia pipe area making somewhat of a venturi. I can see how the perforations could clog with soot.

I’m still waiting got a pipe cutter to come in, but I hope to have it on within a week to see how it sounds.

I just threw on my Donaldson with the baffle still in....didnt noticed any changes in EGTs really versus from when I had my Aero 4040 muffler on.

EGTs are all good, even when towing pretty heavy....

I had a 30 inch magna-flow and it was to loud when pulling my trailer, put on the Donaldson and the sound level is good maybe a little quite but no way would I put it back on,but as for as performance it seems like it lost a little of the throw you back in the seat feel, exhaust temps did not change
