alternator not charging
alternator not charging
i have a 1992 dodge diesel and the alternator does not charge, i have two alternators and both are good , also can not get any data out of computer any help would be appreciated. thank you Mike
I think the 92 has the seperate voltage regulator? something like that, iirc it's a doghouse shaped unit on the firewall in the engine compartment.
I think it's built into the alt on the 93's (at least I couldn't find it in my truck...but the 'lectric is a mess in that one)

The regulator is in the computer , but rarely goes bad .
Get a wiring diagram to look for fuses , fusible links , grounds - these are the most comin charging problems , do not for get to keep the battery cable clean .
Some guys put in an external regulator , I would only do this if the computer is bad & a cheap replacement is not available .
