odometer fix- one option

since buying these clusters on ebay has gotten expensive, i just saw one go for $108 that was guaranteed to work, i thought i would mention that i went to a boneyard, and as usual, there were virtually no Dodge trucks in there ,and the ones in there had their clusters removed already , but there were a few 90's Ram vans. the speedo looked the same so i took a shot for $25. I heard the tiny speedo/odo drive gears were expensive new, but the main reason I tried this was because I always look for options and i found one . Also these van clusters could most likely be had for much cheaper than $25. ANYWAY the speedo was different because of the reset placement for the trip odometer. I pulled it all apart and the gears i needed were the same and perfect. popped into my ailing cluster and all is good and i didn't have to sweat prying them apart and breaking the little plate. crossy

I just wanted to add my findings on this subject today while looking for the gears for my truck in a junk yard. Seems that when the body style changed to the wrap around style head lights and tail lights that the speedo also changed. They look the same 100 mph and all but they dont have the gears that we need for our trucks. I dont know exactly when the body style changed but the first one I took apart had a build date of 10/92. That had the wrong gears in it. I finally found the correct gears in another 92 van but I do not know the production date cause the sticker was missing. One thing I found that tells the difference also is that the one that has the correct gears in it has T-20 torx screws that hold the lens on the cluster. The one that had the wrong gears had T-10 torx screws. So basically it has to be an older square body style van but not to old because they had 85 mph speedos in the earlier years. I took an 85 mph speedo apart just to make sure and they were also different.
