CHECK THOSE LIFT PUMPS FELLAS ! ! !
Re:CHECK THOSE LIFT PUMPS FELLAS ! ! !
This may sound dumb but is there a such thing as "too much" pressure? I'm getting ready to add a pusher pump (I think) but I've heard that if you force the fuel too fast through the injection pump you can wear it out faster. Any thoughts??
Yes some have posted that fuel pressures in the 20 psi range will cause a "Hard Start" condition.

I'm with Fahlguy, That's how i'm doing my set up. I already have 6an lines from the fuel filter canister to the injection pump. Now I just need to do the rest which should be on next week.

I put the gauges on in June 2002. The pressures weren't that good when I first got a chance to monitor things. 12 at Idle,6-7 at 70 mph and 1-2 at WOT.

In Sept. 2002, Lift pump went out completely, luckily not on a trip at the time. Dealer replaced lift pump under 100 K warranty. Now reading 16 at Idle,12-14 at 70 mph,and never below 10 at WOT.

Never did notice any rough running or anything like the truck was starving for fuel. Without the gauge though would have probably lost the injection pump!

Recommend a gauges to keep an eye on fuel pressure, etc.

Good luck!!
Yep a fuel pressure gauge saved me from being broke down 1000 miles away from home, luckily I was close to a Cunnins dealer, bought a new pump and installed it.
But a gauge is a must..

Re:CHECK THOSE LIFT PUMPS FELLAS ! ! !
I was down to 10 psi idle, 8 cruising at 60, 6 WOT. Changed my lift pump yesterday to a Cummins #3990082. Now I have 15 psi idle, and it was snowing like crazy yesterday afternoon, so I couldn't cruise at 60 or try WOT, or I would have crashed for sure. I am still under the 100K mile warranty, but I didn't want a hassle with the dealer about the Cummins vs. Mopar pump, so I just bit the bullet and bought the pump. My CTD is smiling again. And now I can install that EZ that Jack sold me!
I ordered a new fuel pressure gauge form Geno's 2weeks ago and it's still on backorder.

I ordered my pillar set and guages on January 17th and still havent received them. They say the guages are still on backorder. I talked to Rod the other day and he said that it is probably the Hewitt's that are holding things up. Many people have had failures with these.
On February 6th, my lift pump went out. I had already installed the pillar mount and the other guages. When I did the install I zip tied a fuel pressure guage to the windshield wiper and had good pressures. I hope I caught the lift pump in time to keep the injection pump in good shape. I am still waiting for the guage for the pillar mount; so I can install my pusher kit behind the new lift pump. I have all these parts just laying around just "screaming" to be installed. I decided to copy "RADDODGE"s bypass at the pump; in case of failure of the pusher pump.
Re:CHECK THOSE LIFT PUMPS FELLAS ! ! !
KIng, lots of times there are no symptoms until you've done some damage to the injector pump. My lift pump was gradually loosing pressure. I was down to 10 psi at idle, and 6 psi at WOT. My truck had no symptoms, the engine acted just fine, I had power, throttle response, started on first crank, even in -10*. But I knew my pump was failing, becuase I installed a fuel pressure gauge last spring. That's really the only way to know for sure.

DeWain
