Unless your looking for anti-Gel I think the "which is best" argument is the same whether its Coke/Pepsi, Kroger/Safeway, Shell/Texaco etc...alot is pure preference or what makes a guy feel better when they are filling their tank. I have tried the Power Service and now have a product from CRC that I will give a shot...I havent ever been able to notice a difference though...

I've probably used all of them at one point or another, and I've come to the conclusion that the more research you do and the more questions you ask on forums about this issue, the more confused you will become.

No more additives for me. I'm done.

FPPF to remove water in the fuel, and Power Service for the anti-gel/cetane boost/added lubricity for the fuel system.

Howes Diesel Conditioner Plus Anti-Gel has been good to my truck. It costs me about $10 for 1/2 gallon.

It's hard for someone to say that in cold states. I've seen to many gel-ups for me not to use a additive.

All you can do is keep a fuel filter on hand, your tank full and use some kind of a additive or make sure you can keep the fuel lines warm.

^^No issues in Canada with our winter fuel. I've never heard of an issue up here with fuel from a reputable dealer. I saw -39*C last year on the top of the mountains.

The best scientific comparison of diesel fuel additives rated for lubricity is below. I use Opti-Lube Summer and every once in a while some Power Service Diesel Kleen.

I usethe gen 49d also. Can get it readily from any UFA here in Alberta. The results of their lubricity tests are impressive. I have been using it for over a year and the truck runs better with it. Picked up probably 1.5 mpg too.

Over the years I have tried alot of the additives, and used to use a botlle of Marvel Mystery oil with every other fill up. Nowdays with the reduced sulphur fuels, I am of the opinion that we do need to use additives to save the pumps and injectors. I dont live in an area where gelling is a serious concern, so for me I just want something to lube things up a bit. I use Stanadyne, and put the reccomended dose in every other fill up. If for nothing else, its peace of mind. If I never have any problems, I will say its because of the additives. if I do have problems, Ill probably be cussing myself for wasting the money!

Just to clear up my confusion, does this test mean that bio is the best? My current station sells fuel with a sign on it that says its a 15% bio diesel blend. Since the test results were best for what I take to be a 2% blend, then it would stand to reason (at least in my feeble mind) that 15% is pretty good, considering that they were using fuel that wasnt pre treated for the test. The bio blend, in addition to the additives the refinery puts in should be pretty slick, right?
