B3.3t
I am also starting a repower project hopefully with the same engine. Where did you find the B3.3T? I have been looking and calling around for some time now and only found one on EBay that did not sound quite right, 75 HP and the seller did not know very much about it.

75HP sounds about right in base form I think.

Kriesel,
You are probably right, most of the time I see the turbo version with 85HP. I think I found one in PA. I have requested pictures and the ESN so that I can check out when it was made and maybe some other details about the engine. The Phoenix Casting guys told me to make sure the engine was from a stationary application.
Thanks

3.3 accessories mounting
HulkGreen - not sure if you're still around and reading this stuff or not but I'm wondering what all the parts and info you can provide on how you created/mounted all the engine accessories.
Seemed like you indicated that the alternator, power steering, and AC brackets were from a dodge (does this mean the brackets for a 4BT/6BT are compatable with the 3.3?) Also what was the final part numbers and things for teh serpentine belt pulleys and idlers you used?
Thanks!

Where to find a B3.3T?
Hi Everyone. I'm still working my way through this thread( I'm on page 49) but wanted to ask a question. Hopefully the answer isn't on page 50 +.
Has anyone found a good source for the B3.3T engines? Any good web sites to search? I read way back near the beginning that they are common in Mexico but I haven't found a good way to run any searches for down there. Also, what seems to be the going rate for a B3.3T today?
Thanks

Hell Yea I'm still here !! I just have too much fun driving my jeep to sit behind a computer and type. LOL
Not sure if you realized but I did not use a 3.3L. I used a 4.5L which is a 4 cyl. version of the 6.7L that is in the Dodge Ram. That is why I was able to get alot of 5.9L stuff to bolt to my engine block. I had to fabricate a powersteering pump bracket so I could bolt the 5.9L Ram pump to the front of my motor. Look thru my flickr pics (you'll have to go back to pics dated 10-6-2010) and you will see the mount I fabbed up. So, my part #'s prolly won't mean much to you. But, if you want them I can get them ?!?! I did change my crank pulley and added a "harmonic balancer" pulley which threw things off from original and it caused my 8 rib belt to rub against my crank shaft position sensor so I switched my belt to a 6 rib and eliminated that problem.
Any other questions, just ask away.
I did remove ALL the stock Jeep gauges and installed aftermarket. Just haven't stopped long enough to go to Dakota Digital and get the parts to hook up the speedo and tach. But, I am pushing almost 24 lbs of boost and can chirp the 35 inch tires in 3rd gear now.

Looking for a B3.3T crankshaft...
Hi All,
This is not strictly on topic but I'm running out of options. I have a B3.3T that I need a replacement crank for. A new crank from Cummins is horrendously expensive and I hesitate to buy one from China. Does anyone have a spare, maybe not running B3.3T, they would be willing to sell me the crank from? Anyone know a good source for used parts for these engines?
Any help would be appreciated,
Lyle

Almost nine months since anyone posted. We can not let this thread die. There is way too much useful information in here.
So, BUMP to the top.
Macet, I called your cell and you were busy so I left a message. I have an oil pressure issue I need your expertise on.
Thanks,

I agree. The OP is now on a BMW forum and no longer owns the Jeep. He sold it to a friend some time ago. I don't know about the status of the other vehicles mentioned in the thread. It would be great if someone had the time and skill necessary to distill the relevant info from all of this into a "sticky" for future users.
I'm still gathering parts, tools etc. for my build. Where are you in your project? May be it will be just you and me!

I am working on an oil pressure issue. But, I am just having a blast driving the tires off this beast. I am averaging about 20 + MPG combined city/highway. Not interstate driving it drops due to higher rpm and the aerodynamics of a closed barn door. Still got 18+ MPG on the interstate at 72 mph !

Alright,
I just got done reading from page 1. I'm now long in the tooth and grey bearded.
I've got an 07' b3.3 I found locally that needed a crank and 2 new tappets due to some catastrophic tappet failure, and maybe not necessary but I'm talking to some machine shops to get it sleeved because one of the broke tappets slapped the bottom flange off the no.3 cylinder.
I've already contacted phoenix castings to get the right adapter numbers, ( they now offer pre-depth matched adapters for the short housing 3.3s. So no more 1.13" spacers as mentioned back in 09' or so.)
The subject is going to be a 98 TJ with an ax15. I'm going to use macet's 3.9 Dakota bell housing with a 5.2 flywheel and clutch assy design to mate the ax15 to the 3.3.
One thing I haven't seen done but heard a lot of mention of was using the front 2 bolt pto option to drive a hydraulic pump for power steering. I'm going to try to make that work for steering and hydro boost for the brakes.
We'll see how it goes. For now the engine is getting a makeover, then it's off to parts scavenging.
Who knows though, I've got a 55 powerwagon I've been saving for a 4bt I may just slap this 3.3 into. It's just a heavy sob though.
Here's the flickr album if anyone's interested anymore. I'll try to keep it going and keep updated as I go.

That's great db8.
I have a possible option for you. There is an outfit that makes an adapter for B3.3T to Toyota V-6 bell housing. Your AX-15 is the same internally as the Toyota R15x series transmissions. I believe the Toyota bell housing will bolt to the AX-15 main case. The AX-15 input shaft is longer than the Toyota trans but they are interchangeable.
So why go to all of that trouble? Well the Diesel Adapters unit uses a billet aluminum adapter that replaces the SAE flywheel cover. Their adapter incorporates the mounting location for the rear main seal and also allows you to use a Toyota 2kw V-6 starter which, is available in most any auto parts store. Nice if you have a starter failure. The kit also includes a billet steel flywheel that accepts a 10" Toyota V-6 clutch. That means no double flywheel and correct flywheel weight/balance for the engine. Also you add less length to the drive line and that can make packaging easier.
Mine is on order. They are expensive, $1350.00, but I think the advantages are worth the money.
I'm also using the engine PTO to run the pump for power steering and hydraulic brake booster. I'm going to include a cooler in the plumbing just before the fluid returns to the reservoir.
I just picked up my engine which is in pieces due to a spun rod and main bearing. The eng. was in a sweeper that, somehow, ended up on its side and the idiot left the eng. running. My crank cleaned up OK but at .75 mm under on the rods and .25 mm under on the mains.
Let me know what you find on replacement cranks. The last I checked Cummins wanted $1200 for one.
Looks like you and I are the only ones left on this thread.
Good luck on your project,
SGLTRK

The Phoenix Castings Chrysler/Dodge adapters also gives more options for transmissions. Hulkgreen is using these same adapters with a NV4500 from a gasoline powered Dodge Ram. Or if you decide you want an automatic, you can swap in a 5 speed 545RFE from a 4.7L or 5.7L Dodge Ram. My wife's 2006 Jeep Liberty CRD with the 2.8L VM diesel uses the 545RFE. Or if your looking for a non-electronic auto, the 46RH from the 5.2L Rams and 5.2L Jeep Grand Cherokees will bolt to these adapters.
Maybe not....
