Question VP or am I missing the obvious

I started my 98.5 ram yesterday without any problems after replacing block heater plug. warmed it a few minutes as usual {it was 28 degrees so not too cold} I made it a few hundred yards down the main rd and it started to lose rpms then stalled at first I assumed was a dirty filter had been 10k since last one.I am running ulsd and I use power service kleen in it along with a touch of 911 this time of year.the truck wouldnt fire again so i had towed.I set my battery charger on overnight 2amp charge..this am I replaced filter and opened ports on top turned key and let the lift pump bleed it which it did rapidly..I then opened banjo bolt on injector pump and made sure no air there..when i tried to start it started briefly wouldnt maintain idle and then stalled it did this 5 times as well when had foot on pedal it reved and stalled..codes are PO1688 and PO1693 not sure where to find code info.a side note for past 6 months when hit bumps on highway bridges and other places I will lose pedal feel for a few seconds then it picks back up..so just wondering is it new VP time or am I missing a simple fix... 98.5 Ram 170k 24.3 mpg last fill still love it...

Ok I called dodge dealer and they said code po1688 was signal problem with VP 44 and that they werent aware of a PO1693 Dodge wanted 1600.00 approx for pump..I called Lakes Fuel injection in Bow NH they are a Bosch authorized rebuilder they say 1075.00 plus next day.. so I ordered and am bringing VP44 in tomorrow at noon.while I am replacing VP any suggestions as to the PO1693 and how to repair it???Thanks

1693 is simply a companion code. it means nothing more than another code being present in either the pcm, or ecm. The 1688 code in your ecm validates the 1693's presence.

So, don't worry about it, it will clear itself when you disconnect the batteries to do the VP swap.

Thank you I did find info that said was a ECM companion code but all sorts of different conditions occured with so was worried would be another expensive trip.Will swap out tomorrow and bleed injectors..see if I have a new truck again. Other than ball joints ,brakes and lift pumps dang things are so reliable and take such a load,when it does stop running is like heartbreak..Thanks again for info

Thumbs up That Video is awesome

Thanks for sharing I didnt even know about search feature here.If I had would have known alot more concerning this after daughter helped me navigate..I found it very quickly and wow Diesel Dan makes short work compared to service manual..I think anyone who works on own should watch this if have never changed IP..
