VIN number
I need a set of parking brake cables and the local dealer needs my VIN to order them. I gave it to them and it does not work. Can anybody give me a VIN for a 2000 2500 short box quad cab 4x4 with the black valve cover, dana 80 and drum brakes. A 2001 half year would work to if it has drum brakes, Any help would be great.

What do you mean the Vin you gave them doesn't work. It's their Vin or you read it wrong. You should only need the last 8 of the VIN.
Sorry 02 here just confused with your dealer

There is a vin on the passenger frame rail just behind the cross member for the trans facing down to the ground, at least there is on my 01.5.

Let me get this right, you don't have a vin # in any of the places that have been mentioned above? I'll just say it...I do believe that's impossible. The only way they can't be there is if they have been purposely destroyed or removed (and that should raise some very serious questions about the truck). Even then, there should still be indications that something was there, especially the one seen by looking from outside of the truck at the bottom corner of the windshield just in front of the driver. Where did you get the vin # you originally gave the dealer? I'd be curious if the vin # on the title, like Sidewinder mentioned, will match any of the vin #'s on the truck, if you manage to find one intact. Hopefully, this is simply a computer problem at the dealer you went to, but, it still wouldn't explain the lack of vin #'s on the truck. Honestly, I can't imagine how you could have even got insurance since they need a vin # to see what options the truck has to determine insurance cost. This all just doesn't add up and I'd be worried you somehow got tricked into buying a stolen truck.

check out this link and report back with what you have

Buy a car fax report and put in your vin. I assume you have the vin badge under the window? What about your insurance card. That has the same vin you copied from the window location???

Ya my VIN is the same on the ownership as the tag at the window. When I transfered the ownership I got the used information package with all the previous owners, it all adds up and it is registered as the proper vehicle. But according to that site none of the numbers make sense. My Vin starts with RBT when it should be 3B7. Sorry if I confused anybody I am from Canada and I am sure the way we register and change ownerships is different then you guys. Does anybody have any experience with wrecked vehicles being pieced together? When that is done do they re register them with a new VIN?
