valve cover

what do you guys think about taking the valve plate cover off and painting the valves?? is it just for looks, or does it help it warmup or cool down??

Its for looks. I removed mine a while ago.

I think GreenLeaf painted his valve covers red. They look sharp.

Polished covers here. I got some plans for the cover to dress up the motor a bit.

Leaving the valve covers' cover off (as I like to call it ) will not hurt anything, and yes people do leave it off. Here is my recent "upgrade".

So how are you folks painting the embossed lettering separate from the base cover?

Well you could mask off the lettering, then paint, and hand brush the lettering. OR mask the lettering, paint, mask everything else n air/rattle can.

I plan on chroming the plate, then powder coating everything but the lettering, so id have a Red powder coated plate, and chromed lettering.

Thatd really set off some other things I plan on dressing up. and itd really compliment the valve covers on mine.

Right, ..thanks for that, and good job on that "cover cover", ...I had a pic in my mind of rockers and springs flapping out there in plain view. Btw some of the original OHV engines in the 20s I've seen with external valve linkages. Scary but it works.
