No good for June 13...I'll be in Crosby at the Fair and Rodeo that weekend.
Just wrapped up the Lee County Fair and Cook-off this past weekend. I must be too old for 4 straight late nights of partying.

Four nights! I do good to make two.

Let's see...2 nights with a somewhat decent end time, 2 nights of out till 4am with an 8-8:30am wakeup call. Last night was a 12:30 bedtime with a 5am wakeup to head to the airport.
Now...it's bedtime. I'll see what 9 hours of sleep gets me.

Question. Do any of you guys locally have a small utility trailer I can borrow next month for about a week? I need something small........say 6' by 4' or so or maybe only slightly bigger that will hold 1 ATV and still fit inside my Weekend Warrior. I already have a utility trailer, but im pretty sure it's to long...over 14-15 ft total.
Here is my problem. I am taking my truck and toyhauler to Colorado for a camping trip.......and plan to take my ATVs too. But im not going to be camping near a trail head for the ATV trails. I don't want to have to break camp and hook up to the TH just to get to a trail head with the ATVs. I can't haul 2 ATVs in the bed of my truck......so I need a small trailer to haul one of them to the trail head (one ATV would be in the bed of the truck). The trailer would be inside my toyhauler until I got to Colorado...so I probably wouldn't put over 50 miles or so on the trailer. Any ideas?

For replacements, I just could not say OK to $340 a tire for 315/70/17 BFG KM-2's. Too much.
Ordered Pro Comp Xtreme A/T's (http://www.procomptires.com/truck-jeep-tires/xtreme-all-terrain-radial.aspx) for $90.00 a tire less!
I've read some good reports about them but....anyone know anything specific about these Pro Comps?

No! Did not learn about it in time but have been following the Crandall city council meetings. Lots of opposition to the track being apoproved.
Got approval anyway...because track is not within Crandall ciyt limits. It's right next door to the city line. Approved by the county.
Had lots of complaints after the race, or so I read...http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/dev/texas-dragway-crandall-tx-t244132.html

Charlie, im here and I told Colorado "hi from Charlie", for ya...LOL.
Max, I did see a sign pointing toward Tucamcari. Time was definately a factor though....we had to keep moving and try to get here at a decent hour today (Sat.) We stopped at Childress overnight for a few hours of shuteye. We went up through Amarillo thru Dumas and into the desolate unknown "no mans land" between there and Raton, NM.[laugh]. Glad I filled up before that little run! THERE IS NOTHING THERE EXCEPT DESOLATE NOTHING for about 150-200 miles!
My truck and toyhauler loaded to the gills (atvs, water, gen, gasoline) weighs in at 19,500lbs and my truck felt it today for sure. I am still running Smarty on level 9 and MP8 on 100 percent like I always do.....and it definately got smokey and hotter at elevation. McKinney is at 597 feet........Raton is like 7000+.:o
The truck did great I just kept my eye on the egt gauge and had to run with overdrive locked out for most of the elevated climbs. 65 is not a good speed for my truck......which is where most of roads seemed to be. It's a little to fast in 3rd gear.........running 2400-2600 rpms.......and to slow in 4th at 1500-1600rpms. If I can run 70+ it is much better with my 35'' tires. Coming home will be fine as it will mostly be downhill.
Anyway we made it. It's beautiful up here like I knew it would be. I have about 4 or 5 different ATV trails we hope to ride.....and will be white water rafting one day. The other days will be local stuff....Royal Gorge...driving Pike's Peak etc. Should be fun. My internet service up here is spotty....so I will drop in a little if I can. Yall have a great week!

...The other days will be local stuff....Royal Gorge...driving Pike's Peak etc.
Good Luck with Pikes Peak. Last four times I tried...never did get to the top! Closed due to high winds and blowing sand.
I made it one time to the last 200 yds of cutbacks but turned around...felt like my paint job was getting sand blasted.
Coming down steep parts with DTT in 2nd works great! Don't even need brakes. :)
Hope you get to the top.

And to think, I was wanting to remove the black vinyl between my windows to make it look different. I think everything may be too faded to attempt that now.

I hate to rain on the party (pun intended), but The Ranch is in no condition for a meet this weekend. I haven't been up there yet, but last night a neighbor said water was standing everywhere and a lot of downed tree limbs. Besides the mud, it's grown up knee high and there is no way I'll be able to mow until next week. Maybe in a week or two...............
I still plan on going to the dyno and hope to see everyone there.

I was wondering how things fared up there. We have some friends in Van Alstyne that headed to the cellar last night. They had a tornado just west of the house that picked up before it got there. It definitely looked nasty on the map.
We did OK here. Doesn't look like the new roof took any damage. It did rearrange all of patio furniture as well as pruned a couple of trees. When Andrea was coming home, she saw a little tornado spin up in her rearview mirror while on George Bush. And she had a big timber from some building cross the road in front of her.

Room for two??? heck we could have BBQ up there, next time Robert has his trailer around ask if ya'll can hang out for a bit on top( 270 feet up ) [laugh] the top of our Nacelle at school is roughly, 12 X 25 feet.

ya caught me, thats how I / We did it. . My lead on this job was standing in the nacelle on the main shaft with one of the hatches open to snap the photo.
I figured that pic would catch more comments than the truck [laugh] [laugh]

It got plenty warm, I saw one of the banks around that area have 109* on their display, so I am burnt, now my tan line is back to my elbows, I thought I finally had it evened out to my shoulders, now it looks like I stuck my forearm in a paint booth when they were shooting a light red.
I made a mistake when I left, I thought I would run down 377, good grief my right foot was more tired than my left one.
I finally broke 400hp and have the knowledge that I still have more power than what I show. I forgot to turn the defuel parameters either up or off, so I hit 2700 rpm and it went down hill from there on that run, and the program that should be really hot didn't even get a chance, the defueling started really early on those runs.

Well im back from our 8 day (counting travel days) trip to Canon City, Coloradoa area////Royal Gorge. Wow what a place! The high temp all week was around 75 degrees with a nice chilly low 40s every night. The views were incredible.
Day 1.....Royal Gorge. Awesome! Rode the incline railway down to the bottom. Then walked across the bridge to see it from the top. They had a frontier town and old west gunfight on the other side....as well as a video about the building of the bridge in 1929. I had no idea it was that old.
Day 2.....ATVing at a place called (of all things) ....Texas Creek. We met some other ATVers along the Arkansas River and rode with them.....about 40 miles in all. Some of the trails took us up to over 9000 ft elevation. The views of the 14ers (14,000+ elevation mountains) were incredible. Saw some deer and 1 black bear!
Day 3.....All day Whitewater rafting on the Arkansas River at Bighorn Canyon. This was a blast! Prob more so than the ATVing. Unfortunately we never did see any Bighorns...just regular mule deer again. Afterward Jared and I raced some gocarts and I relaxed while he went down a giant slide about 50 times.[laugh]
Day 4.....Colorado Springs....Garden of the Gods....Pikes Peak. We could only go up to 11,000ft of Pike's Peak.........because of a SNOW STORM!!! Can you believe that with the 100+ temps here......the upper part of Pike's Peak was shut down due to a snow storm in June! Then we drove to Cripple Creek and rode the Narrow Gauge Railroad between CC and Victor, CO. Lots of gold mining in that territory.......and still ongoing. We got hungry afterward and went to a local casino. Jared obviously had to stay out of the gambling area but he was able to watch me briefly. I played the slots for a few minutes and doubled my $20 to $40. Then we had a steak/shrimp dinner at the casino. We then drove the "Shelf Road" back toward Canon City. This is a narrow dirt/rock road that is literally on the "shelf" of a mountain. Above us to the right was a rock ledge hanging over the truck.........and to our left was hundreds of feet steep gorge. Beautiful terrain!
Day 5.....Rode horses in the area. Then that evening we drove to Salida for dinner and then on to the Marshall Pass. This is another dirt road that winds around several mountains (prob 20 miles) and goes over the Continental Divide. It had been raining so the road was pretty soupy. Glad I have 4x4! We didn't get stuck but I could see how it would have been easy to do so. Saw prob 5 different families of mule deer. Lucky for them it isn't deer season and Im not really a hunter! I could have filled the bed of the truck up with deer meat. We were just a few miles east of Gunnison....but didn't get to drive the drive to Montrose which I hear is incredible. We did drive back over Monarch Pass....11300Ft coming back toward Canon City on Highway 50.
I wanted to go ATVing on several other trails but just didn't have time. We didn't even finish riding all the trails at Texas Creek, CO. That place is an ATVing/ORV mecca. Next time I go, im going to "boondock" along the Arkansas River and stay away from paying to stay at a campground. You can stay up to two weeks free at any public lands area. Live and learn.
Both ways......to and from.........we stopped overnight in Childress, TX and camped out at the Walmart.[laugh] I had never tried that before but it worked out great.
Truck and Trailer did great.......I just wasn't used to the uncontrollable smoke at elevation. I finally gave up and lowered the Smarty down to level 3 which helped a little.
Then we came into the metroplex at Denton today just in time for the Dyno event........and decided to stop as an afterthought.
good times!

Good to see Daniel and Jenny again today at the dyno! Sorry I missed you, Charlie and RJ, but I guess I showed up about the time ya'll left. I really can't say I blame you...it was very uncomfortably hot.
Congrats to RJ for winning the Super Street class. RJ dyno'd first one of the day and his numbers stood all day. Everybody that beat his numbers (547ish) went over 600+. Quite a few trucks actually.......making over 600 with 2 that made 800+. Buck didn't disappoint........this time blowing a tire (causing fender carnage) on the dyno.
I got lucky and redeemed myself from last years "bracket dyno" by winning Street class this year at 445hp. (Last year I got edged out by another truck at 450hp exactly to beat my 448.) This year I also got lucky and won a drawing for a Bully Dog t-shirt and BB cap separate from the dyno winnings. Glad I stopped by and dropped the travel trailer![coffee] I had not even been home yet after the Colorado trip.:o

You should have lots more left...no?
I would have hung around if I knew I'd get my picture took.:)
I left to find a store and..... just kept heading North once I felt the A/C. Too Hot for me.
I-35 was down to one lane...stop & go... near Valley View, so I headed east x-country. Saw some pretty farm country, south of Gainesville, but my detour took 1 hr to get back to Hwy 82 E to Sherman. You almost can't get to Sherman from Valley View without the Interstate!:D
NOTE ON DYNOS: Always raise your hood! Only time you get some idea of what's happening in the engine bay at WOT!!
I saw my H2O/Meth shooting fluid straight up in the air.... none into engine.
Have no idea how long it's been that way?? 547 hp w/o H2O/Meth is good input to have, since I haven't dynoed w/o the 'juice' for 4 yrs!
Now have answer to why EGT's have been sneaking higher!

Had a good weekend down in Houston, saw some good rodeo action and served (as well as drank) a few beers.
The truck actually got to make this trip instead of the car since apparently 3 girls can't pack light enough to make the trip in the car. The trip down gave me a good chance to work the truck out a bit since it just sees short trips around town usually. You can really make good time when you're in traffic that is running 85-95, it's just not always so friendly on the fuel gauge...especially when running into the wind.
So what's on schedule for the next one?

That is what this is... right? A 'Bracket Dyno'. I knew in advance what class I was in and going for. I tweaked and played with it a little in the amount of time you have on the dyno......and was able to make my 'number' on the 2nd run. Micah was wondering (with me) why more guys don't do the same. I told him I was going to shoot to dyno between 440 and 450 and try to win that class.....then do a full hp run for fun if I could. It did 445 and I said "log it".....that is my 'official' run. The next one is for me and doesn't count toward this event.
You have to really know your truck to get in to that little window. It really surprized me that you took your class with over 50 hp on the table between you and 600. (particularly since you dyno'd first)
I don't recall ever hearing or reading that your 'official' run had to be your 'max' run. If that is the case I would never have a chance to win being that I make to much for the street class and not near enough for super street. Hopefully in time with a few more mods I will be able to compete in the SS class.

I'm thinking I'll be at Kennedale, assuming I won't be swamped with school by then.
Oh and Rowland, I ran to 3200 rpm everytime, but everything started to defuel when I hit 2700, usually I'll be at 2900 before it drops off as bad as it did.
I say it defueled, it really didn't completely, what it did was drop the power levels (went 5 to 4 to 3 to who knows)

Thanks and thanks! I just can't remember for sure, but I thought the pic of the turbines were taken from the highway 287 on the west side of the highway between Amarillo and Dumas. If not there, perhaps somewhere on 87 around Dalhart.
I don't remember seeing any others........but that's not to say that there weren't any. I have never been to the panhandle of Texas prior to this trip. Or NE New Mexico either for that matter.

Caprock wind farm? As in the electric company Caprock?
Dyno Classes:
3 Pulls for $50 ( 15min time limit from the time you start your first run)
- Closest to 350HP
- Closest to 500HP
- Closest to 650HP
Is this a new twist?
Does 351hp beat out 348hp, or is it closest to, without going over??

Hey Rowland, 6/18/09
The Dyno Day is being hosted/held by Dr. Performance on Friday starting at 12:00 noon...at their shop.
We (ODRA) are only helping with the "payout" of the "bracket" race along with NADM that will be on Saturday at the track.
From my understanding, at the last dyno day they held, it was up to 350hp without going over and so on...
I will check with Michael Doss at Dr.P to see what the exact details are and also to see if or what payouts might be involved for the dyno.
His Contact Information is:

Man i had to read the last 4 pages to catch up!! Haven't been around in a while... Life has been busy.. Buddy Jason (most have met) got married on a big catamaran on Lake Lewisville Sat eve.. Big lake day the day before.. (I tried to sink the boat, but that is another story!)
I guess I'm out for this weekend as well... Having some friends down to my parents place for another lake weekend before heading off to Maui the 3rd through the 10th.. Big day is the 5th!! :o
Reception is on the 25th of July, so hopefully after all this fun is over, life will calm down a bit and let me come play!! Ol dodge is doing well... Have a small oil leak on the back (of course) of my P7100, bolt hole I believe.. It is making a mess on my underside!! :( Need to fix that
Oh ya and I have the 1/8-1/4 tank blues now... Hauling a large trailer out of a pasture, back end of the truck sunk a bit going over a high spot and now my plastic tank has a big dent and low spot in it!! apparently it messed with the placement of my straw!! start getting erratic pressures around 1/8 tank.. or just before light comes on!! :D
Hope everyone is doing well.. Robert- sounds like a heck of a trip!!

No not quite... Parked the boat off the shore a ways because the shore was too shallow.. Eating some BBQ noticed the bildge was dumping...
Swam out popped the engine bay and there was 10-12" of water.. popped center hold bout 10" in there... Yes plugs were in... Long story short got her on the trailer and emptied out.. A ballast line had come loose and was basically a 3/4" diameter hole in the bottom of the boat... Got it fixed and away we went, PITA though...

I captained a sinking 2007 23' VIP to the trailer, It was a scary feeling at night . That 5.7L had trouble holding us about 10mph (hammer down). one of the drain plugs in the exhaust water jacket came loose filling the motor compartment with water while running. That is an experience I do not want to go thru again. I have had some gnarly nautical experiences. . . [yuk]
I still can't believe the motor kept running, I have killed trucks in mud puddles. This boat had constant water up to the head, and valve covers.

Congrats on the dyno win! From what I read, that was the big purse of the day (unless there was a big dog competition).
So where is an alternative source for Cummins parts in DFW? I normally go to Cummins Southern Plains on Irving Blvd in Dallas, but got there yesterday and found out they changed their hours at the beginning of June. Now they're only open Monday-Friday till 5pm. Service used to be open till 1am and you could get parts after hours. Since that is a bit of a haul to make during the work day, I guess I need to find a new source. Cummins lists a bunch of Ford dealers, but when I've called them before, they don't stock any parts. What I need are the copper washers and injector o-rings right now, but guess I need a new source for filters as well.

But there is also Cummins Southern Plains in Mesquite off of Big Town Blvd and there is Southwest International on 75 here in McKinney. (they service trucks and you can buy Cummins parts through them too, I think)

As for Matt, he said on FB that he did an all-out run of 392 on the Dr. P dyno with the Quad 140 Hot. He did 400.3 on the Floor-It dyno the other weekend with the Quad 140 Standard. So either the Dr. P was stingier or the Quad 140 Hot hurt his top end.
Duallydog
06-28-2009, 01:41 AM
They said that they would do the "closest to" method for the dyno the next time they have one, which their thinking August.
Exactly as Justin said. Only comparable numbers I have are from the same setting of level 1 (which is the Max Mileage setting) was 372 at Dog Days and 352 at Dr P. I compared the numbers between me and the only other one of my members to make it and it was a range of 5-8% lower for our two.
I can't be sure, but I know the 140 hot is more aggressive but probably just as high as the regular 140, but the 140 I'm betting on Floor-it's dyno again (without the safeties on) will produce 410hp.
Winnings were a first place dyno plaque, a fist full of Dr P decals, $150 from Bobby at 5 E Diesel and I didn't completely catch what the certificate was worth from Dr P (they didn't have them yet, supposed to send them this next week). I think my class was the only one to get cash though [coffee]
As for running at the track, I started off with a run at 12.7 on level 1, but I was fairly consistent after it started to cool down outside and I was a little more aggressive about starting I was running 11.9-12.235 on the 100 and 140 horse settings. It'll be nice when I start cutting the weight down on the truck.
I also got really good mileage other than the 32 miles I had including the track. I finally figured a good way to drive to get good mileage instead of sticking with a speed I stuck with a boost number (7 going up and 6 coming back) I didnt use cruise control and avoided going over 10 psi and usually kept some throttle going down hill to build speed for the next hill.
Did 21.9 mpg on the way up but I can't confirm the mileage on the way back because I filled up on a slope as I left Kennedale, thus giving me slightly more fuel than I would have had level.
That 32 miles leading up to that fill up with the extra fuel said I did 6.6 mpg, and then fueling up when I got back to town it says I did 83.6 miles on 2.85 gallons which was 29mpg (pump originally shut off at 1.9, weird). I figure it was closer to 23 than anything.

Surprises me. The reputation of the dyno from Floor it Diesel has always been "stingy but accurate". The guys in KS. & MO. call it The" Humiliator"!
Either way...Good Job Matt! What are your plans for "cutting the weight down on the truck"?
RJ
Duallydog
06-29-2009, 02:28 PM
The Floor it dyno is probably accurate just Dr Ps was stingier.
I'm looking at putting the stock bed back on it, the more I read about aerodynamics the less impressed I am with this bed for flow. I figured the other day that I had a square meter worth of flat surface that the wind is hitting, that alone is 154 lbs of pressure at 70mph. And a little more weight reduction will happen because I would lose the 4 tool boxes on the bed and just have the chest one.
It will be a major change going back to the stock bed, I only ever fueled up once with the stock bed on it, heck I had this bed on it within 6 days of winning the truck. I think I will eventually go back to a flat bed but I will probably build (or have built) to my specifications. (I'm already designing it)
Then completely redo the bumper, it will probably stay as a metal bumper but it will be better designed for flow with a detachable grille guard.
Doing all of this plus some other aerodynamic improvements and possibly a gear change (probably find a way to make a simple 2 spd transmission). I'm aiming at improving my fuel mileage at 70mph, who knows maybe I can make a consistent 25mpg truck. [laugh]
And of course any of the improvements for air flow and weight will help at the track as well.

Your mileage, for that weight, is excellent!
What has never made sense to me is when I head to the metroplex I get better mileage I think its a mix of more traffic to draft and I'm using my foot instead of the cruise control.

RJ....im glad I didn't let you buy my used KM2s off of me a couple of months ago. They are now shot at just under 40K miles. You would have been cussing me..................[laugh]:o
I have been noticing a vibration in my front end the past week or so....and steadily getting worse. I went yesterday to Discount Tire to have them try a rebalance and rotation. They did and it didn't help much. My tires were wearing on the inner lugs and one in particular was about to have exposed belts.
So it became decision time for me quickly....because I have a couple more trips coming up. Im not gonna jack around with bad tires. So I went back to Discount Tire and ordered some Nitto Terra Grapplers in 285/75/17 size. They came in this morning and got em on. Wow, what a difference. They are so much smoother and my truck feels so light and quick in comparison.
Now I know why Brian wanted to go back to 265s!!!
Anyway...the "look" isn't as impressive as the KM2s, but the rest of the benefits seem to outweigh it.

Robert, I know our trucks are different, but when my tires started wearing on the inner lugs, the front end was out of align. No pulling, no tracking problems, nothing, but it didn't take but a few hundred miles to cause considerable wear. I too use Discount Tire, but they could care less if your FE is out of alignment. It's probably worth the $$$ to have it checked.
The Nitto Terra Grapplers seem to be the hot choice these days. Good luck with them.
The way tire prices are now, it's no longer a decision to be made lightly!
I will be very interested to see how many miles we all get out of our new tires.......
my Pro Comps vs you, Brian and Rob with your Nitto TG's! And Mike with his new Toyo M/T's.
Especially since we are all now on 17" wheels.
So far, loving my Xtreme A/T's......... NO road noise and the deepest tread I've ever owned!

... when my tires started wearing on the inner lugs, the front end was out of align. No pulling, no tracking problems, nothing, but it didn't take but a few hundred miles to cause considerable wear.
You, or anyone, know a good alighment shop for our CTD's?
I saved the proper alignment specs (from a knowledge member). They are apparently very different from the Service Manual!

Happy Bday Justin,
I had mine aligned at 4 Wheel parts. $130 ish.
I am not sure if it was a good alignment, Had a failing ball joint at the time. I need another one but it can wait.

I had mine aligned recently at the Goodyear place close to the house. I took the specs in to them and they tried to match them. Then ended up on the low end of the caster spec, because he was saying anytime they increased the caster it caused the camber to go way out.
It does drive better than before, the steering has a little bit of a lighter feel. But I also had an eccentric on the driver's lower control arm that had popped out of it's track. Didn't take long to practically destroy the outer edge of my passenger front.
Thanks for the B-day wishes!

Factory Specs or others. Have been convinced by knowledgeable members that factory specs are too broad??
But, I have never touched mine since new.
Kept getting warnings to watch 35" tires closely for a needed alignment but..... never had uneven wear or poor drive characteristics??
I feel a bit negligent but, if it ain't broke... why fix it?
Same with ball joints.... still fairly tight at 175,000! Seems unheard of!
Only reason I can see for my apparent good luck is possibly having installed DSS and 3rd Gen Track Bar... both in first 30,000 miles... as preventative MX.
Thoughts?

Around 100k my front tires started to wear a little funny and I ended up having to replace bjs and driver side wheel bearing assembly. Robert you should definitely check alignment and said items because tires usually don't wear like that on their own.

I used the specs found on here. Factory specs were much broader than what I used, but there was still a pretty big range on the specs from here for caster. They advised going as high in the range as possible, but I ended up on the low end.

Charlie you are prob right. It has been a while since I had it aligned.
But I really think the majority of the problem was the design of the tires themselves. They are wide, with those great big lugs. I am not knocking the BFG KM2s by the way. They did great! But just don't plan on getting 50K out of them. As long as you only try to go 40K or less, they are fine.
My steering seems to be very straight at this time. I have a trip to Mississippi coming up and then later to Arkansas (towing) so maybe I can find some time to see what is happening with the new tires and go from there.
ahhhhh........time and money are such precious commodities![duhhh]

Just trying to copy me and my tires!! :D
Mine are doing great so far... I'm running the 285/65/18 I believe...
Towed a pretty good load this past weekend 150* asphalt temperature 99* ambient.. Got the drives to 155* and the steers to 130*.... Front trailer tires around 150* rears about 165*
Figure truck last time I weighed 8200#
Trailer I believe is 3500ish#
Tractor is 11,000# + loader and bucket prolly 2,000#ish + my newly homebuilt 8' box blade is right at 1000#s (1/2" plate gets heavy in a hurry!)= 14,000
So what's that almost 26000#s?? I wasn't hauling it on the big trailer, but my 14,000# cap trailer, so I kept the speeds under 60 to try and keep the tires cool... My experience shows the tires really heat up exponentially over 60mph...
Lets see where was I going with this??? Oh ya tires did fine! :D

Happy Birthday Justin!
I usually align trucks with maximum +caster (a little cross caster with mud lugs to keep off the curb) which is +4.5-5.0*.
The wear spec on the ball joints is so large that I don't consider camber changes from caster adjustment to be significant. The top ball joint is just a floating king pin anyway - all the weight is on the lower BJ.
I set toe to absolute minimum to lighten the steering & improve response, but you have to back off a little on older trucks with worn BJs - they'll push out the amount of slop while cruising due to rolling resistance.
I also adjust the drag link differently depending on whether the truck is auto or manual.
Additionally, on trucks that tow or haul both caster & camber will decrease.
Otherwise, the best thing for solid front axles is running tires at max inflation and rotating them often enough to wear off the cupping.
I wish I could get 40K out of the 37" Toyos. :(

Wasn't me. I don't get on 35 much....but I burn Central Expressway (75) up between McKinney and Dallas.
Just trying to copy me and my tires!! :D
..............
Guilty as charged! You did get me to start thinking about going to a little bit smaller tire after reading your comments on the 265s a while back. But I wasn't willing to go that small. Your truck just didn't look the same going back to those.
These new tires have a number of great benefits. I was cruising tonight at 70mph and the truck just purred. It was so quiet in the cab. My water temp was a cool 195 degrees, EGT sat exactly on 600, Boost was running about 4lbs on flat level ground, turning about 1800 rpms.......and I could hear myself think with a lack of road noise.
I'd also be curious how it would do in a drag race. The truck FEELS quicker and lighter and more nimble.
Now, I am also going to be curious about my mileage. I reset my overhead thingy and ran the truck today.......and it said around 25 mpg. Now normally it says 22ish which of course is way high. My actual mileage with the old BFG Muds usually hovered around 15.5 to 16 when I hand calculate, mixed city/highway. So im curious if the new tires really helped my mileage by 3 mpg or even 2. I just filled up tonight (15.5 mpg) on the last tank.........and im headed out to Mississippi empty (no towing) so I should get a nice baseline with the new Nittos. I'd be thrilled with an actual 19 on the road!!

Depending on weight no... Anything up over 8k I always try and keep over 1900-2000RPMs
And Robert... It is absolutely amazing how a small drop in tire size can increase drivability and especially towing performance!!!
I also adjust the drag link differently depending on whether the truck is auto or manual.
Why is that? Inquiring minds ........!
Specs that I saved, from a very technical, 2nd Gen thread on TDR, with general concensus from all guru's that comtributed, are.........
- 3.2*L, 3.5*R caster, .3 cross caster....
- 0-.1* toe,
- 0* +/- .1 camber
Pretty close to what you said Mike!

I'm asking all of this because part of my mileage attempt will include changing my drive ratios, however it looks like the best thing to do is have a custom 2 speed thrown in, everything I calculate out will benefit the most from having a 0.80 gear reduction for my current rear end or go to a 1.20 gear induction (however you want to say that) after throwing 3.42s in the pumpkin. Or I just say enough and get a Gear Vendors (.714).
...Or I just say enough and get a Gear Vendors (.714).
If mileage is your goal..... I'd do lots of homework first! Threads I've read all say they aren't worth the money. Do little for mileage.
Maybe it's different on 3rd gens??

I think what happens on the gear vendors is either people drive that much faster since they dropped rpm or they dropped too much rpm and are lugging the engine (most of them I see drop to 1600 at 70mph). However it may all come down to being more efficient to just throw in the 3.42s and put on a 33" tire that isn't too aggressive.

Well it turned out to be (hand calculated) 17.822 mpg running 72 mph with a/c blowing cold (like always). Outside temp mostly around 100-102 degrees today. Drove about 470ish miles and the needle was just under the half way mark on the dial. Overhead said I could go 262 more miles on that tank (but that's a lie). Im a little disappointed actually. But the mileage is what it is. Still prob a little better than the same trip with 35'' muds.
Truck rode and drove awesome though. QUIET.

Well been a while since I bought a toy for the truck... So I bought a new switch that will REDUCE my power about 50%!! :D Different isn't it?? lol
Finally bought a valet switch for the ol girl... I have been unhooking my AFC line manually, but that is kind of a pain... Nice when towing heavy not to have all that fuel on tap!! Other times as well... With the AFC disconnected truck tops out at 35psi boost.... Figure thats prolly around 300hp for my rig...
Also picked up another front seal, going to bump the timing up some at some point... thinking 17* or 17.5*, supposed to be a little lower EGTs on the top, maybe even some better mileage... We will see, ready to experiment some... Buck was pretty confident that I was easily leaving 50-75hp on the table with my conservative timing in Alvarado.
Next I need to figure out what is up with my FASS... Sometimes after starting the truck my FASS gets stuck around 1-8 psi... Once I blip the throttle it comes up to 35ish and stays there fine... Just sucks to know that sometimes when I remote start the pump isn't getting much pressure... I would like to get the running pressure up to 50ish as well, I have a new spring that I have been sitting on for a while now... It is supposed to be a 60psi spring, hoping is is a tad lower
... Just sucks to know that sometimes when I remote start the pump isn't getting much pressure...

The weight deflection caused by your hand position on the steering wheel dictates drag link adjustment for correct steering wheel "clocking".
3rd Gens also have 1/10th degree toe-in spec, but any year benefits from an extra degree of caster to help avoid death wobble - especially with a leveling kit.
