twin turbo alternative??
Just as it says....I am wondering what kind of turbo I can run other than my stock turbo? Currently I have just some stg 1 ddp injectors and with edge turned all the way up and the low end response all the way up and an intake and I smoke out a two lane road. I was going to run a small set of twins but, things are in the making for some change. I will be possibly picking up a CJ-7 jeep and restoring that, so money will go else where. On the other hand I would really like to clean up the exhaust smoke issue to.

62/68/14 from Engineered diesel, with their race cover and super62 wheel with their wastegate actuator rod.

Its a good all around turbo thats not laggy.
If you ever do the twins this will fit perfect for a top turbo.
E.D.s prices are WAY cheaper than Hight Tech and Industrial Injection.
All these turbo shops do the same stuff, take off the shelf Borg Warner parts and put them together to make a turbo. NOTHING is custom.
I have had turbos from HTT and I.I.
E.D. gets my buisness from now on.

what kind of power can i expect to gain from this idea? Is what Im wanting to do worth it? Dont know much about turbos and I am wondering if its cost effective to do this?? I dont want to spend a ton of money to gain something like 20 hp. Some one school me.

If you have too much smoke coming off idle a bigger turbo won't help, it will make it worse.
Try to fiddle with the low boost settings until you are rid of the smoke and just get a haze at wot from the line.
You will need more go pedal, but have the same or more performance. Until you have the air (meaning boost) to burn the fuel, adding more fuel does not make more power.
In some cases it's a devil's circle. You are overfueled, need very little go pedal and the auto does an early upshift. So the rpm stay down, no exhaust volume, no spool on the turbo, you keep out of the pedal, and again an early upshift. Reducing low end fueling on the box makes you press the go pedal further, the tranny keeps in first a bit longer and the turbo has a chance to spool. Much better overall performance.

You have the ease of adjustability with your box.
IMO, you have WAY to much fuel for a stock turbo.
Like Alpine said, you need to get rid of the pre-boost fuel (fuel that dumps black exhaust before spoolup on the turbo)
As far as making horsepower, a 62 can make with the right fueling and tuning 500-550hp.

Oooops, didn't realize it is a 6spd....
Still, try to tune the low end fueling down to something reasonable, and let your truck rev enough to be in the turbo.
If you have sustained smoke under WOT from 2000 rpm you need an nice primary charger.(And your stocker, an external WG head studs, DD clutch, etc etc...)

Just to get rid of one misconception-
before you get to approx 5 psig on the stocker (bigger aftermarket turbos have higher numbers) you are below boost threshold- and after that when boost climbs really quickly you are in spool land.
What I see a lot is that folks get a bigger turbo, twins or whatever and are disappointed- because the new stuff will spool good or better than stock etc- but have a higher boost threshold, and make their truck worse off the line.
IMO for a daily driver a set of compounds with a secondary (maybe a VG turbo or a BB unit- or both) , a very big wastegate and a decent size primary is desirable.
In a race it's not the one with the most horsepower- it's the fastest who is going to win.

62mm is a good all around turbo.
You will want to turn down your pre-boost fueling. The bigger turbo takes longer to spool up (or reach boost threshold, as it were), and overfueling it makes it worse. You will have to relearn how to drive it with a bigger turbo. Stabbing the pedal doesn't work nearly as well as it used to with the stocker.
