turbo boost
First post a lot of reading you guys are great. I installed a boost gauge on my 2000 ctd the gauge is a 20lb on hard acc the gauge will go way past 20 and vibrate. I have never got an overboost light or warning is everything alright or should i be checking? As far as I know the truck has no mods . This truck runs and does all I ask of it All help gratly appreciated

Re:turbo boost
how far over 20lb are u talking...stockers can hit a bit over 20 under a heavy pedal...if u want to check for power upgrades, the usual place to look is to see if anything is plugged into your MAP sensor...located back a little further than your fuel filter...their will be wires running to a small box usually located by your fuse box under the hood...this is a common upgrade known as an EZ box...if u dont have one, you'll soon want one hanging around on this site!! welcome

Re:turbo boost
run, run and I mean now and quick. These guys are great but it is a conspiracy against all of us newbies. I have only been a member for a short period and have already started to modify my truck. The only thing that holds me back from going absolutely nuts is my very level headed wife. She controls the check book! I have my boost set at just above stock and have not seen any codes or check engine lights as of yet. I have been told that you may get away with up to 22 or a bit more without setting codes. This would also be the differnce between where you are getting your reading and how accurate it is. You will know that your overboosting when your smoke color changes, temps get high or low and the defueling thing is a dead give away. Hope I have helped some and God Bless!

Re:turbo boost
The fluctuating boost pressure is not normal.
Before purchasing a new gauge, you might want to check and make sure all the hose clamps are tight from the turbo to the intercooler and from the intercooler to the intake horn. Listen for a "click-click" sound from the exhaust which would indicate a bad gasket or possibly even a cracked exhaust manifold.

Even if you do not want any more power!! You should try a PE EZ.... I have had atleast 150 RV'ers and Ranchers try them and everyone of them bought em'!! Just for the mileage increase alone it is worth the money.. Not to mention the perfect response to the throttle pedal you get from the EZ Box. The Added HP and Torque are just side effects you will learn to live with :
Even the Motorhomes pick up 1.5 to 2.5 MPG... That's around 60-100 free miles (Pickups) of driving on EVERY Tank of Fuel!! And on the Motorhomes it is 150-250 free miles of driving...
Last but not least.... Let your wife drive the "Tuned Up" EZ'd CTD and she will happily let you write the check... As she drives off in your truck!!! 8)

Re:turbo boost
Who is being a bad influence?
Ohh, not me, it's still yall. Yall are a bad influence for me. :P
I feel kinda wierd when yall talk about 20PSI boost. My 24V runs 40-45PSI, and my 12V trucks runs a tad more than twice that.
Usually a pegged gauge makes funny noises. Don't put a vacuum gauge on your diesel, that'd be odd.
Try this number. I am in no way responsible in who this number goes to, or what conversations may occur, or how the future of your truck may change. 505-534-0434
