Truck height

I pulled up beside a stock '06 or '07 cummins quad cab tonight at wal mart and noticed it sat about an inch higher than mine. It was pretty unsettling. I stood around for a while while the wife was putting the kids in the truck, just looking at it and wondering why my truck sits lower... I have a tool box and a full tank of fuel but I didn't think that would weigh it down that much.

Do the '06+ sit higher than the '04's? Could my springs just be settled and broke down a little, perhaps from pulling a goooseneck??

Also my truck was built in Mexico.. Could that be a difference? I've noticed differences in the way trucks from Mexico sit compared to ones built in the US..

Maybe he had a bit higher tires? Small lift? Or even a small change in ground elavation.

My truck is an SRW and I have been parked next to a 07.5 dually and at least the bed of his truck is higher than mine. I haven't thought to look at the cab height. I was in a parking garage today that said max height was 7' 0" and I cleared everything but I really wouldn't want to be any taller. Mine is stock height with the factory Michelin tires.

The new trucks do sit higher. I know, I check the Dodge Body Builders site after noticing that my truck sat about 2 inches lower than my fathers 08 Mega Cab (http://www.dodge.com/bodybuilder/year.pdf). I compared the Views and Charts for model years 05-08. The rear measurement from the ground to the top of the box should be about an inch difference depending on what year. The measurement for the front air dam has a difference of 2 inches. According to the site my 05 compared to an 06 should be the same. Only when you go to the 07 then they start to gain altitude over the earlier 3rd Gens. It has got me wondering about the springs and spring rate.

Shawn.

Hmmm, don't know about that? I used the Dodge Builders guide to compare my 2006 QC to a 2008 QC of the same configuration, long box 4x4 SRW,the height from the ground to the bottom of the rear bumper is the same measurement ,24".Check out views and charts on both,it is the H105 measurement which is 24".But the charts could be wrong too.

I don't know if this is current or not but when I was shopping for my o3' 3500 srw I noticed that some 2500 sat higher . I found out that the 2500 can be ordered witha snow plow prep which changed the front springs and that made it sit up there, that option isn't available on the 3500 srw though. M aybe the other truck had that spp option and yours doesn't. This might not be true for your year but thought this could be why....

My '08 is defintely higher than my '02 was and I would rather have it lower so I have more clearance when pulling my gooseneck. I need to take the tailgate off when pulling so I don't contact the trailer when on unlevel ground. I am hoping the springs will settle after a little time...we'll see!
