transmition filter / cooler
Hi Everyone, I have been looking at installing an additional external tranny cooler (Tru Cool?) and a inline spin on filter assembly after the cooler(s). Anyone have any recomendations?
I have read about this transmition oil/oil exchanger or trans oil/coolant exchanger, I' not sure which? Do you need these, can they be bypassed, or do they serve a functional purpose?
I plan on Towing a fifth wheel, 6500 lbs or so, and have the original transmition and would like to prolong it as long as possible.
Any risk on adjusting the bands while I am changing fluid? ie: or am I going to get it out of the garage and wonder what I just did
I will also be putting a tranny gauge, temp and pressure this winter.

Re:transmition filter / cooler
I have not installed any type os spin on filter, though I to was thinking about one(B&M has a kit). The Oil to Oil exchanger I would think should stay in the circuit, I would think it's main funtion would be to get the trans fluid up to opperation temperature. In the summer time, my trans fluid always stays in the 150-160 range, so I am not sure how much a extra cooler will benifit you. The spin on filter ideal I like, and would likw to add that one to my truck as well. Auto transmissions wear so much, that the extra filter has to help, and it would be convenent to just un-screew the old one and screew back on a new one. There isn't anything in particular to watch for when you drain the pan, and change the filter. While there you can adjust the bands it you like, there settings are in most manuals. Are you going to install a Mag Hy-tech trans pan? You mentioned putting in a temp sensor.
