Trailer Tow Mirrors

I ordered my truck with Trailer Tow Mirrors. As it turns out I will be taking a truck from the dealer's inventory (my truck was ordered without anti spin diff in error) that doesn't have the trailer tow mirrors. The dealer has said he will switch them, but I was thinking the stock mirrors look pretty nice. I will be pulling a 16' horse trailer (bumper pull) to start and will switch to a gooseneck trailer in the spring that is 23' in length.

Is rearward visibility acceptable with the regular mirrors or should I have the dealer install the TT mirrors? Do the TT mirrors make alot more noise (wind)?

Thanks

Re:Trailer Tow Mirrors

I also bought off the lot and the only thing I really wanted that the truck didn't have was the mirrors. They would have put 'em on for cost, plus labor, but I figured I needed to wait. The parts guy gave me a killer price on 'em and said whenever I was ready to come pick them up. I'll have to install them myself, but I don't think it's all that hard (anyone have any comments on that?), so that's what I'm going to do.

I think they have to make a difference, flipped up to the towing position.

Re:Trailer Tow Mirrors

The tow mirrors work great. You can see alot more with them than without. I don't know if the standard mirrors are the same size as the tow mirrors but I pulled my 30' enclosed car trailer the other day and I forgot to flip the mirrors up. When I was almost home I realized that I could see just fine without flipping them up. But given the choice I would get the mirrors.....

I had a 98 with the standard mirrors and they were terrible!!

Re:Trailer Tow Mirrors

When towing my fiver, I don't forget to flip the mirrors up for long... there is a huge difference in rearward visibility with a solid body trailer like my 5er.

Re:Trailer Tow Mirrors

I did not order the tow mirrors because I don't tow any large trailers and didn't want to fold them in to pull into the garage. I haven't driven a truck equipped with the tow mirrors so I can't comment on them. The standard mirrors do not vibrate like the ones did on my Gen II.The visibility of the standard mirrors does not seem to be as good as the Gen II standard mirrors. I suggest that you test drive both and then make your decision.

Re:Trailer Tow Mirrors

I too am looking at buying from dealer stock (1ton without a tow package), I tow a 5er and would like flip-up tow mirrors, but the dealer said that they would not change them because "it required additional wiring. The question of the day .....tow mirrors should be plug and play .......right????

Samfox,

I don't know for sure, but seeing that when others try to install things like the auto dimming mirror and the wires being there, I'd say that the wires are there and are the same. It would be stupid of Dodge to use 2 different harnesses just for the side mirrors.

Re:Trailer Tow Mirrors

I'll be able to tell you by the end of the week, but my dealer told me that they will be able to swap them easily once the truck I orderd with the TT mirrors comes in.

Re:Trailer Tow Mirrors

when i see a HD ram without the TT mirrors, i think it looks a lil cheesy.the TT mirrors, even without extending them are bigger ,and quite a bit further out than the standard mirrors. And when you flip the TT `s, i think it looks way cool i wish i could keep them out all the time just my 2 cents

Re:Trailer Tow Mirrors

The trailer tow mirrors, when flipped up, give a better view down the side of the trailer since they stick out further. The small curved mirrors are also handy for turning corners as they allow you to see much more of the trailer as you swing a turn. I run mine flipped up most all the time because the large and curved mirrors combine to give a better field of view when merging or passing on the interstate and they reduce the blind spot. I pull a 16' BP and 30'GN and think they are a very worthwhile option. Be careful at drive thru windows and the Sonic.

Re:Trailer Tow Mirrors

You'll be glad you got the trailer tow mirrors. Even in the non-towing mode, you'll love the convex section of the mirrors. The addition of my ventvisors caused more wind noise than the trailer tow mirrors ever thought about creating.

[/quote] the truck on the lot does it have everything the one you ordered does besides the limited slip....it no big deal to swap a carrier....you do not have to go through all the gear aligning. its just a basic swap maybe recheck back lash..

Re:Trailer Tow Mirrors

My 2500 didn't come with the tow mirrors and as I now toy a 29' 5th wheel, I ordered them (parts guy got them for me at wholesale, said it was the least he could do since I bought two new trucks from them in a year).. I simply removed the stock mirrors and put on the tow mirrors in about 20 minutes tops... simple easy hookup.. these were heated/power mirrors.. used the same electrical hook up as was on the stock heated/power mirrors.

Re:Trailer Tow Mirrors

Didn't you have to take off the door panels? Is it a pain?

Ii got some tow mirrors enroute because I was sick of using the strap on ones. That's alot of $$ for mirrors. :'(
