TPS or what?

My tranny is having trouble shifting from third to overdrive. It cant make up its mind what gear it wants to be in. I'm also having trouble with TCC lockup. This is with no load, normal driving around town. When It finally locks up it good, but is just getting it there. I either have to almost floor it or have to slow way down to make it shift. ???

Re:TPS or what?

First step is to spray aerosol electronic cleaner at the shaft coming out of the tps while moving the throttle back and forth. If that doesn't work pull the wires to the tps out of their loom and separate them all the way back to the pcm. If that still doesn't fix it replace the wires with shielded ones.
Contact Scott at gpcinc@yahoo.com for a wire kit and tons of experience on od hunting.

Re:TPS or what?

I know that the rewire kit does work, that is if it is the wires,if not some have had luck taking it apart and cleaning and resealing it. I would rule the tps out first with all that has been mentioned here before going to into the trans for solenoids or letting a local trans guy have at it,as they misdiagnose most trans like yours. Re:TPS or what?

You can rule out the TPS if you have a Lockup switch this will bypass the TPS after 1st gear and lock the torque convert in....I use my Lockup switch allot when I want positive converter lockup for climbing hills when towing

Sounds like you mite need a band adjustment also....just a thought

Re:TPS or what?

Most of the transmission gurus don't recommend adjusting the bands unless you are having a slipping problem. Much of the time you can end up doing more harm than good.

Re:TPS or what?

just tap the tps signal wire on the pcm side of the harness. take the dvm in the cab with you. takes literally 5minutes. drive the truck at 60mph and see what the voltages are doing. are they jumping around? should be around 1.5v. questions? let me know if i can help. scott
