timing cover gasket

What type of gasket is used on the timing cover, is it cork, rubber, one of those
re-useable o-ringed plastic types?

I recieved my KDP kit from TST today, they give you a tube of RTV to use but I prefer
to use a gasket. My local Cummins dealer wanted $70 for a new one.

What do you folks think, should I get the new gasket or re-use the old one or RTV ?

Cheers, Jim

Mine came off without damage to the gasket so i cleaned it up and used Ultra Grey silicone and its fine. I would not be scared to use just Ultra Grey.

I should note, while the timing cover is off, its usually a good idea to change the front crankshaft seal as well.

That was the main reason I one the KDP Fix because the Seal was leaking Bad. I put 2 quarts of Lucas oil stabilizer in a few months ago and it really helped to slow the leak down but I hope now its gone.
