Timeing Gear Cover Installation Tip

Anyone who has had the timeing gear cover off knows about the aggrevation of wrestling the cover into position while keeping the plastic sleeve in the proper position inside of the front seal. Ninety five percent of this problem can be eliminated by making alignment dowels to keep everything straight. Purchase four metric screws - M8 x 1.25 x 60mm and cut the heads off. Then grind a slight taper on the shank where you cut the heads off. Install two of these locating dowels directly below the crankshaft seal, one directly above in the offset tab that sticks out from the others, and one above the oil fill location at the top right position. You want them on the loose side without the threads hitting bottom. Now get everything squared up and push the cover on keeping your pressure near the crankshaft. I was amazed how easy it went on!
