I thought I would visit a Duramax site.

Well I registered to a Duramax site to see what they talk about due to some people at work that talk trash about my Dodge. www.dieselplace.com. Man, all I can say is this, not too many miles racked up (there is a poll that is 15 pages long and most have about 30-50 thousand miles between years 2001-2003/4). The problems page make ours look like a compliment page, (under hood fires, tons of tranny problems, injector problems, use oil). All I want to say is this, I sure am glad I bought a Dodge. I get dogged all of the time about how "my Duramax will do this my duramax will do that" and ya know what no it can't at least not for as long as mine. They call my Cummins a Come-a-part. Ahh. I guess I shouldn't take it to heart.

I've looked around the ford forums a few times but never GM. I just looked at the new 2006+ LBZ topics and HOLY COW! Injector melt downs(300 miles), blowing heads, turbos, the new mirrors slamming against the truck when hit leaving dents, and that was just the first 3 or 4 threads. I am not putting GM down what so ever but everyone over there is complaining about quality control. I feel sorry for the guys with the new trucks having problems. just hope the new 07 motors for dodge will be ok...

My mom's dmax has 67,000 miles on it in 2 years and up until now we haven't had any problems. In the last month or two we've had the CEL come on every week, a glow plug replaced, a fuel filter changed out under a recall (had to have the computer reflashed for it because it was a high flow filter and caused a CEL light), and a couple of other little things. In 88k miles and almost 5 years my check engine light has never come on unless I made it (don't ask).

But BB, I am sure your Mom has Pampered her Dmax. I doubt you have pampered your 2001 Cummins very much in the 88,000 miles you have driven it.

A buddy of mine owned two Durapads. LB7 and a LLY. Both gave him grief. Now I would say he didn't give them the best care but said he would never buy another diesel again. His new ride is a 2500HD with the 8.1L gasser.

Pamper? My truck gets pampered. Why do you think I'm putting new injectors in her? The bigger injectors allow the fuel to flow easier thus making life a little bit easier on the old girl.

I just registered. We're getting pitiful fuel mileage with our 2005 D-Max, and I'm hoping to get some answers.

A buddy of mine was fighting fuel mileage with his 05 Dmax Dually 4X4. He went with a turbo back 4" and an AFE intake no TT though and a reflash on the stock computer. He is running a Juice w/Attitude and is now getting around 14 MPG and can pull high 10's and low 11's while towing a 4 horse slant with living quarters which is up from the 7's. In order to put the turbo back exhaust on he had to go with a LBZ down pipe and the code on his glove box had to have the number 99 in it for the EGR system or it would have thrown codes from no back pressure (not sure about all of the details of this). Anyway, he seems happier now but is still kicking himself about getting rid of his Cummins. I take him for a ride in mine once in a while.

You should find a lot of info on dieselplace though. Good luck.

Mileage on the Dmax seems to be very inconsistent. My biz partner has an 02 DM and gets around 16-17 MPG US empty or slightly loaded with tools and a topper etc. Towing a 28' TT he got a ground breaking 10 MPG. Under same conditions I get 17-19 mpg empty and 14-15 towing the same type of TT.

The funny thing was after his towing trip with the DM, he got mileage up around 19 empty. Great!!! Then it has declined back down to 16... We are at a loss as to why its so poor on mpg.. A newer electronic engine should get better mpg than my old CTD right??? LOL...

I'm registered over there. I like their site. Mainly visit the Cummins and Off Topic/Pol Discussion forums.

Mr T. If I remember correctly (and it's hard now-a-days with this danged CRS) both the CTD and D-Max have injectors made by Bosch.

Overall, seem to be a good bunch of guys. A lot of them own or have owned CTD's and most of them like them. Of course we are all brand loyal to the mighty Cummins, so I can understand when they think theirs is better than our. Then I look at my friend that has a '03 Max and can't get the check engine light to go out. And neither can the dealer. They've had his truck several times in the last few months and can't get the problem fixed. He's trying to get it lemon lawed and the attorney says he doesn't have enough to go on yet. Love the CTD.
