Tempature and power.

Its been about 6k since I had my pump gone thru. I picked up a little milage, 20mpg+, But after a anther trip with the camper and trailer it just seems weaker than it was. The old pump was jacked up on the truck and it cratered after 60k or so. this one was supposed to be rated at 175hp, upgraded governer springs etc. I see many ways to tweak on the truck but where should I start for small gains.
Also on this trip the weather was HOT, about 105. Pullin grades, equal to the Grapevine plus, pushing it a little ,the coolant temp neared 3/4 hot. Im not real comfortable with this, but I wonder what It really is in Numbers, any guesses?? I could ease up on it, but in one situation a RV broke down on a 2 lane twisty road and sitting in traffic it neared 3/4 again. I have no pyrometer yet, Its time to get serious with this before I damage it.
Thanks, Apache.

Re:Tempature and power.

My '93 service manual shows an imaginary line midway between the 3/4 mark and the "H" mark as being the "maximum hot weather heavy load" position, so it seems like you're OK where you are. They also say that it's "normal" for the temp gauge to climb to the previously mentioned point "after heavy use". I guess that means not to worry if it climbs when you stop, unless it gets past the max point. As to how hot that really is, I have no idea, probably somewhere around 235, assuming mid point as 200 and "H" as 250.

If you are worried about pump longevity with VE mods. Look into either the Bosch 185 injectors (a pretty clean injector and adds around 30-40rwhp I believe) or the shower head smoke cloud of death emitting Delphi PODs ;D good for 60rwhp and 100rwtq.

Yaaa baby... them POD west nile annihilators .... heck up here in the frozen north we can kill us some skeeters at 100 yards with the right wind and some Prince 'O Darkness nozzles....

Matter of fact, my mileage has gone up 20 mpg...... I hung a pail under nascar marks tailpipe and catch all the fuel he don't burn, then pour it into my tank......

On the serious side though...... there is only 1 governor spring in our pump not "springs" so take that modification with a grain of salt maybe.... also, keep your tank fairly full in hot weather, our pumps are lubed AND cooled SOLELY by return fuel. Be sure to use an additive that has good lubricity improvers too..
