SPS62 vs 35/B2 Twins
I have the sps62 and it runs good if your running the truck wide open and playin, but i pretty much just daily drive my truck and haul wood with it. Might want to tow a camper with it in a couple years. With the mods i have and what i do with the truck would a 35/B2 setup or something simliar spool quicker for daily driving and get up and go. It's now showing my sig so here it is: 2001 QC Short Bed HO 6 Speed, AFE Progaurd7, SBC DD 3850, DDUFM, SPS62, DD 4 jammer injectors, Fireringed, studded, Pryo, Boost, Fuel Psi. Gauges, FASS Fuel Pump, Smarty
Hmm I have been impressed with my 62ss turbo when hauling the other day I was doing around 6k with ease egts were fine. Maybe the smaller stainless 13 exhaust hausing is the differance in the spool? I like my trurbo more and more every day!!
ive had a sps62 a sled puller 66 and now 35 over ht3b and theyre not even comparable. the twins spool so fast. the egts dont even move i cruse at 550-650 all i can give it with the smarty on 8 edge on 5x5 i see about 1200. i hauled a load of scrap the outher day. i weighed in at 17,400. the egts were never over 1300. the best way i can explain how they drive is like a stock truck with 550hp. i think twins are so expensive because you get what you pay for. definatly worth it

Perhaps, but it spools better with the p-pump. It seems to come on around 1800 rpm, which to me seems late for towing. Then again, I don't tow, and I like to run around in the lower rpms. I will be towing once I get my Ford project underway, which is why I'm gonna be ditching the single for the twins.

if you can afford twins, go for it. towing with them is 10x better than a single. with the single your always shfting to keep the rpms up or just towing a gear to low to keep the rpms up. with my twins they come on around 1500-1600, and are at 40lbs by 2100 rpm's. i also have a cam but that made them spool about 100 rpm's quicker. like they say with single turbo you need to give a little to get a little. i found out with the twins you get it all. and the set i have use turbos from the stone age. i cant amagine how some of the new sets people build drive
i want to stay around the 500 mark or below, would it be better to go with a K31 turbo. I know source automotive has pipes for the s400 to plumb it up but what about a k31. Haven't seen pipes made for them to use stock turbo.
A k31 will fit right in place of an s400. You onlt need to slide the downpipe back 2 inches. I am running the 35/k31 and love it. I have never run the 62 so I cant compare the 2, but I definately love my twins. spoolup is good and it keeps everythingcool when I do tow.

I am amazed that you guys who buy the 13ss housing all tell me that 1800 is where they spool. My 14 has 20+psi by 1800rpm & with my box turned up will spool at 1300-1400rpm depending on how hard I hit the go pedal. There is a hill over on route 166 they call ***** Hill because the name fits it well. You decline down a 9% grade & you have to make a full 90* turn onto ***** Hill crossing a 12ft wide bridge [single lane traffic]. I only have 30-35ft of road before this hill goes up hill 9% grade for 1 mile long. I make this turn in 3rd gear, punch it & see my boost peg 45psi & revs hit 3000rpm. I shift 4th gear & the turbo drops to 10psi, but spools fast to 45psi & I top the hill in forth going 55mph. My egts don't go over 1250* pulling 15k# up this hill @ 55 mph running sw2, 2x5. I've posted this before & I'll say it again " The 4 flow Dragon Flow injectors are a perfect match for the HTT 62/71/14". I honestly think this combo can't be beat for heavy towing.
I think twins really are the way to go, I have 3.55's and 35" tires so spooling a large turbo would be even more difficult for me. Twins should give me more airflow than a large 66mm single and let me tow all day long with super low EGT's and intown driving should be WAY better.
I would love to have twins on my truck when i start getting serious with it, but then I cant pull any of the DHRA classes and be competitive, but there is a pulling sled that goes all over the place here every weekend and has a points system I could pull with since its run what you brung. Id just love to have twins so I could be making some major power and still tow. I have ridden in a 12 valve with PLENTY of fuel and a SPS62, and it sucked for towing. Mine with my HX35 would of out hauled it for sure with lower EGT's, and better spool.
