Hi Guys, i am trading in my Silverado for an almost loaded Diesel Mega cab 2500. It does not have the snow plow prep package , but I have to use it to plow my 1/4 mile long driveway. Can it be installed and what will my warranty issues be?

I have an 03 2500 with the snowplow prep package. I believe it consists of heavier front springs, a different alternator and skid plates. I assume someone else can chime in if the 06's are different. I would also assume it wouldn't take much to change these items.

Yes thats all it is. So if you really are only going to plow your driveway you should be fine the way it is. But if you are going to run the plow through the storm you would need the 160 alt. Skids plates you could live with out. As for the front springs. You will figure that out real fast when you lift the new plow. Either they are OK or you will need a set of Timbren spring helpers

I recall reading about this 2 winters ago, what I remember is the left front spring becomes the right front spring, and the left front is replaced with a spring from the snow plow package ordered from a dealer.... hope that helps

I have a 06 1500 Megacab and I am installing a 7.5 ft SnoWay plow on it just to do my driveway. The manual says it should not be done on a 1500, but fails to distinguish between reg 1500 and MC 1500 which is basicaly 2500 I checked my truck on a truck scale and I still have almost 2000 lbs room on a front axle between the weight of the truck and FAWR. The plow is about 700 lbs. When you check the plow prep option, it lists only the skid plate and the alt, nothing about springs. Your 2500 has even firmer springs than my 1500, so you are OK. Of course my dealer will not see the plow when I go for a service.

PS: I just saw you have a diesel, check the weight of the front of the truck wth the plow on it, you and the balast in the bed if you are within the FAWR

the 160amp alternator option is only on the gas hemi's. all the diesel ram's come with a 130amp alternator. for 04.5 model year- the snow plow package included a transfer skid plate and different front springs

Does the 1500 MC have have IFS? If so I would not recomend it. If it has a solid axel then it may be ok. But they do not recomend a plow on a 2500 long box quad which is the same lenght as your truck. But if you are only going with a 7.5 you should be fine

That would make sense since diesel do not use that much juice. The 160 may not be needed

Thanks for all the great info> It will just be my driveway. Its a quarter mile long gravel so i should be able to handle it stock. The dealer is having a hard time locating me a loaded Mega diesel right now. Hopefully they will find something.

as far as i know and have read on many other forums, your warranty is void if you get a plow on a truck without the plow package

that depends on the dealer. i bought my truck down south before i moved back to new york state- so it obviously did not have the snow plow prep package. my "new" dealer in ny said there would be no problem with warranty claims as long as i bought the springs and the front skid plate from them- which i did and i installed myself. dealer has lived up to his promise.

Are you going to hide the hydraulic connections for the plow, or just pretend they're for the front-mounted hydro winch...

I'm not aware that any ram truck has IFS these days. Maybe I'm wrong in the case of the 1500?


*Edit* I was wrong-the 1500 does indeed have IFS.

mega cab 1500's have a solid front axle as do the 2500/3500's (obviously) the standard/quad cab 1500's have ifs.
