SMARTY and HAPPY
I bought my truck new January 1999. I had a Chevy 1 Ton duel with a 6.5 Diesel?, it was a major disappoitment as my first diesl truck. My Dodge has been the best truck of the 10 or so trucks I have owned over the years.
I didn't do anything under the hood as far as performance goes until this week. I bought a Smarty at Keystone Diesel on Wed night...now I dream of injectors...twin turbos...stacks. Am I too old for stacks at almost 52???
No, I'm not doing stacks, but they are cool.
To the Smarty. WOW this thing is the best thing a guy could buy for his truck. I am old school, used to building horsepower the old way...wrenching and tuning and lots of time and money too. This thing makes such a difference in how the truck runs. To make this much of a difference years ago with a gas engine you would have to do a lot of work. Plug the Smarty in...two minutes later you now have a new truck! I love this thing but I know it will cost me a few speeding tickets, something I don't need more of.
I was getting bored with my truck...no more.
I went out last evening to give it a good workout on a open road that winds up over a nice long hill. I was very impressed! Before this test ride I only drove the truck in traffic to and from work a few times. I went up this road last Saturday before Smarty, what a difference. I thought about going down to forth gear last week at a section where you must slow for a 120 degree turn, last night...I just hit the throttle and it took off in 5th like I was going down hill.
A friend is coming over Saturday, he has a truck exactly like mine but a 2001. I'm going to let him try my Smarty but I'm going with him when he tries it because I know he wouldn't come back. He will be buying one on Monday.
Does anyone else have their right side mirror adjusted to watch smoke?

Thanks for the post. Glad you had fun and enjoy your Dodge. Ive been looking into getting something for my 01. Haven't decided what, but now I have to go put another check next to the Smarty!!
I don't have my mirrors adjusted, but from time to time when I hit it going uphill I enjoy the plumes of smoke people get behind me once I lean on it!!

Yes, im guilty of having my mirror adjusted to watch the smoke. its so much fun, i cant wait till i get more.
i also dream of twins, bigger injectors, cam, headwork, nitrous, etc etc.
so dont feel bad, everyone else is like this also(just about everyone).
and NO your not to old for stacks.
have fun and wait till you get some bigger injectors, they will really wake it up

Just wanted to mention that your buddy is going to get all the current ecm updates just by trying out your smarty so tell him not to freak out if his idle creeps up to 1200 rpms on cold mornings
I'd say try some smallish injectors next, something under 100 hp-after you get the guages installed of course. That's the bomb that blows my mind- just swapping injectors can add more power than most engines make
And remember, this is all for fuel economy

Good post!!
I got my Smarty less than a month ago for my '02... And wow do I like Sw#8&9!! I've tried to dial it back to some of the lower Sw#'s but I don't get very far from the house before I pull over and dial it back up to 8 or 9!!
I haven't adjusted my mirror yet but my truck has the camper special package with the spotter mirror that allows me to see that area pretty well. I don't really notice much more smoke except when I walk to the back of the truck and look at my "soot tinted" chrome bumper...
