Just wondering if anyone else ever had this problem , and what to do to correct it.

My truck is an `04.5 Quad Cab 4X4 auto. with a 6 in Superlft susp. lift , 3in PA body lift , running 37s on stock wheels (currently) with a PPE downloader (on tow) and a TST (normally on 3-3,now on 1/1),and an ATS tranny.

The tranny is the most recent addittion and has been in the truck for a a year and half now.

I just recenly picked up a "thump" or a "clunk" when coming to a complete stop, or leaving from a complete stop. It has been narrowed down to the slipjoint on the driveshaft where it leaves the transfercase. If you remove the driveshaft , re-lube it , then re-install it , the noise is gone and everything is great for about 2 weeks. The lube seems to heat up then quit doing it`s job because it starts doing it all over again.

The splines are fine , and I`m out of ideas...

Pinion angle. Make sure you also check the angle at the carrier bearing. Dosen't need to be more than 3 deg angel.

 

So it can be corrected by shimming the rearend?

What would cause it to happen 3 years after the lift was installed?

The rear only has a 3in. (tapered) block for it to sit level , soo it`s not a huge block.....I`ll give it a try , it can`t hurt. Thanks.

 

Do you have a CV on the driveshaft, if not you should get one. There is also a teflon coating around the splines that you might have worn off. That will cause a clunk or vibration.
