Silencer Ring Removal Help

Tried taking out my silencer ring today. The snap ring would not budge. I have an 03 with about 92k miles.

Any ideas on how to get it out? Seems almost like the snap ring is rusted in there. I really dont want to just rip the silencer ring out in case i dont like it out and want to put it back in.

pull the turbo out and do it on the bench, it only takes an extra couple of minutes to pull it out. then take it to the bench and you have better access to it and can use other tools as needed to aid in getting it out.

best way I have heard of is using 2 small flathead screwdrivers.

good luck, be patient, I couldn't get it out either with the turbo in the truck

use a small screwdriver and a small or rubber hammer to tap it around to break it free then slide the small screwdriver under the lip of the ring and use another driver to start to pry it out go slow and keep working it out it will come out

Just a question? why cant you just use snap ring pliers, or is it that tight you cant get them in there?

Don't pull the turbo thats for sure. Get 2 small screw drivers then where the lock ring is open on the bottom take a screw driver and pry up on the ring and hold it there, then take the other screw driver and pry behind the ring and it should pop right out. Shouldn't take more than a minute..
good luck

It's a regular flat retaining ring, no holes for pliers.

Here's the problem guys; I cant even pry the end of the snap ring up. Tried for about 30 minutes and couldnt get the snap ring to budge.

So i should just tap around the edges with a flathead screwdriver and a rubber hammer, and then try and pry it out?

I really dont want to have to pull out the turbo either.

Some people have just grabbed the silnecer ring with pliers and forced it out, leaving the retaining ring in place. I would not recommend this, and also it will destroy your silencer, so in the event you want to re-install it, you couldnt.

I dont understand how some poeple have so much trouble with these rings. I am not try to insult you or your intelligence, but mine as well as many, many others came out in 5 minutes.

Just get the smallest flathead screwdriver, or if you have small pick or something, and keep trying to work your way under it. Once you get under it, use another tool in the gap between the ring and the turbo to continue around it until it comes out. Keep trying, you'll get it!

You'll want to pull the end towards the center and then out. If that helps any.

Ive done about ten of them and all I do is take a larger screw driver around 12" and set it in between the silener ring and the inlet there is a small 1/4 gap all the way around and just tap it forward just enough to put a forward dent in it and the grab it with a pair of pliers and pull.. Use locking pliers and it will come out in two minutes flat... Easy peeze... I wouldn't care about putting it back in but that's just me...
