S.O to H.O

I have a friend with an 03 S.O he tells me that he went to the dealer and changed his truck to a H.O just by going back and forth with the Key from run to stop 4 times. Then The display panel said change H.O. Is this true?

Yeah, didn't you know. I actually didn't have to do all of my upgrades. I could have just gone out and turned the key on and off 150 time and it would have gone from H.O. to U.M.M.S.E.H.O. (Ultra Mega Mega Super Extremely High Output) !

Just kidding, I have no idea if that is true; it would be rather crazy if it were though!

That's funny!!!! I don't think there would be any SOs left on the road if it were that easy to make them HOs. I turned mine into an HO by trading it in last weekend......

Why would you want to be a HO. SO nice to be special. SO trucks are a little slower and are virtually powerless, like mine and alot of the others on the ultimate HP and 1/4 mile time lists. ks

My SO was the best truck I have had, I wish I still had it. I dont see how your friend could turn his SO into an HO unless turning the key also changed the oil gallery cooled pistons LOL. But as far as the higher horsepower goes it is just changing the ECM program.

Any of the downloader and boxes that have 9 settings that you can't use ....just set to one higher than your buddies truck. I could run the TST on 8/7 virtually stock when none of the HO's could run 7/5 without draining the rail....stock. ks

I hope that if I go from run to stop 4 times that my HO doesn't turn into a SO, I guess I better leave it running from now on. I think David Hannum not P.T. Barnum probably described it best, "There's a sucker born every minute". That and a little fairy dust and life is good, but then what do I know.

Ok but think about this. If you have a H.O with 305 hp and add a Box that gives you 75hp your truck goes to 380hp. If you have the S.O and add the same box your truck would go to 380hp also. So in theory it should work. So one of you with a S.O go down and turn your key 4 times without starting and see if it works.

Yeah its true...but you have to knock on the dash 3 times then press the brake pedal and blink one eye and flash your headlights

If it doesnt work repeat until it does.

haha what a crock of $h!t.

I wouldnt trust your buddy anymore since he's obviously a liar and you shouldnt hang with liars.

That's awesome that you can magically change a AAM 10.5 to a AAM 11.5 rear diff and a 47re- 48re not to mention all the different hard engine parts like oil injection for free.

Dave, there's no magical way to change from 250hp to 305hp plain and simple. If he wants to believe that then let him. Have him do his magic and then line the trucks up and see who's got more power. My SO was a slug without power adders. Heck, My friend's 01 was faster than my 03 SO was until I started BOMBing it.

Don't do it. I did and my wife turned into a pumpkin.

Ask your friend if the HO can be turned back to an SO, me and kids are getting hungry. ;-)

Honestly, you must be joking, seeing what kind of reaction you can get, whatever. Something I'd expect from BigDan

Why would *anyone* spend the $$$ to get a HO if it was that easy to "upgrade" your SO?

There's a reason there was no automatic behind the HO motors until the 48RE came out. The 47RE couldn't handle it. If it was as easy to "power up" as you say it is, there would likely be lots of transmission failures.

I'll buy his dyno time if he can prove it. A run before the magic key cycles, during the key cycles, and after. Continuous video, no boxes or downloaders, ecm swaps, foolers, propane, nitrous, etc. Any splicing of the video or starts/stops and I won't pay.

And by the way, if you put a 60hp box on my truck, the rwhp goes from about 250 to 310.

Put a 60hp box on an SO and you'll go from 200 to 260.

When making max power with multiple boxes and supporting mods, both engines will make about the same overall hp.

Technically I guess you could say the SO's respond better to power adders.
