Rims! What Back Spacing?

I would like to get a set of 18 x 10 rims, but not sure what bs or offset to get.
I want to get a leveling kit also and I'd like to run a 33 x 12.50 or 35 x 12.50. I've got a set of Bushwhacker pocket fender flares so it's O.K. if they stick out a little.

Any help or pics would be great, I tow my mustang a lot w/ my truck and I don't want any problems with the ride or turning.

Thanks Chad

Here's my take from a lot of study and measurements. With factory rims and 265/70/17 Cooper STs, the outside edge of the tread is 1.4 inches inside the outer edge of the fender well. The factory rims have 43mm of offset and 6.2" of backspacing and are 8" wide.

From there you can do the math. IE, for a 10" wide rim with 5" of back spacing that means 0" offset, with a 2" wider wheel. With the factory wheel, and 0" offset, (-1.7"), you would be .3 inches outside the fender well. With a 2" wider rim, you split the difference and add another inch outside the well. Roughly 1.5" of tire tread sticking out, figuring on a proportional tire design.

i have 18x9's (bs 5.5")w/ 35x13's and a leveling kit, they dont rub anywhere. you need 5.5-6" backspace to clear everything w/ 35's. and i would try to stick w/ a 9" wide rim, i think 10" may rub.

this is the closest they come to the fender while turning...

I have some 20X8.5s on the way that only have 4.6" backspacing which isn't normally enough, but since they're only 8.5 wide I am hoping I can get away with it. The tires are a 275/65/20 which are about 34X11. Right now I'm running 315s on stock wheels. So I'm losing 1.4" of backspacing and adding .5" rim width which would be 1.9" further out from the rotor, but the tire is 1.6" narrower, so that should net me about 1.1" further out than my current set up as far as hanging out of the fenders. What I don't know is what it's going to do for rubbing issues on the fenders. Hopefully the 3/4" less diameter will keep the rubbing gremlins away.

I have 20x8.5's with a 5.5" BS and 35x12.5 nitto muds. The nitto's are actually 13" wide. Back when I had just the leveling kit the didn't rub at all. But to put my flares on I had to go up to a 4.5" lift. So, since you have the flares, and you want the 10" wide wheel, I'm going to say that you will need a 6" BS and I honestly don't even think you'll clear them with flares and 35's. The 33" tire is going to be about as big as you can go but that also depends on the aggressiveness of the tire you plan on running. Good luck.

Do you know how close they were to rubbing? Mine will have 1" less backspacing, but my tires will also be a little smaller.

I looked the wheels I want. They come in 17 x 9 w/4.50 or 5 bs , 18 x10 w/5 bs. So I guess I'll have to get the 17 x 9 w/ 5 bs if I don't want them to rub!
Oh ya these are the wheels I want!

im pretty sure the 5" bs will rub w/ 35's, especially w/ flares. i only have about 1/2" clearance w/ 5.5" bs and i dont have any room to add flares.

if you want those rims you may need to stick w/ 315's.

Ya I think I'm going to have to get the 17 x 9 w/5.25 bs and run a 315 tire so I don't have any rubbing.

Thanks for the HELP! Chad
