rig wheel questions.anyone here mill them?

ok was looking for a set of 22.5" wheels

A friend of mine has a pile of 24.5" alluminum wheels laying around-
FOR FREE

I cant find a low profile tire for a 24.5" wheel thats smaller than a 41"
Anyone here do machining that has cut rig wheels down to a 24"
iam thinking of going this route and runnin a automotive tire.
What would be the cost?

I also think it defeats ther purpose of even bolting the rig wheels up .i wanted to extend tire life/never buy another set.

The other question is there a difference betweem front and rear wheels? He has them on his cab over logging truck and says they are universal...just flip them around for front/rear??is he right?

anyone want to trade for 22.5"

want to run a 255 tire......anything up to a 38" diameter

Yep rims are the same, inner and outer. As far as I know there are 2 types of rim, one is centered by the lugs, an inner and outer lug nut. The outer nut is 1 1/2" and the inner nut is 13/16" square (I think). The other type of wheel centers on the hub and uses a single flanged nut to hold both the inner and outer wheel on. I think it's an 1 5/16" No the 2 types of wheel do not interchange. Around here 22.5's are much more common than 24.5's as most over the road trucks run them these days. We had a 24.5" wheel break and a steel reconditioned wheel was only about $50 so if you reallllly want 22.5's they are not too expensive unless you want aluminium. Good luck.
