Radiators
Radiators
Is a 1 ton rad different than a 3/4 ton? What I mean is the 1 ton will haul more than a 3/4 so is the rad capacity or square inch area larger for more heat rejection?
If so will if fit in a 3/4 ton?

In the heavy truck world when you spec a truck, the higher horse power engines require a larger rad, same if you spec it to haul heavier loads. So I thought the 1 ton may have a larger rad and now knowing there are different part numbers I am now more interested. I realize the 1 and 3/4 may have the same HP but they do have different load and tow ratings.
The other reason I am interested is I have upgraded to a larger 5ver and when I tow my quads behind the 5ver in warm weather on long grades I can get the light to come on. I have cleaned the rad, charge air cooler, trans cooler and A/C condensor, have changed the coolant, the t-stat is fine, rad cap new. Head gasket is good fan clutch is working properly. I do not suspect a water pump because on flat ground it will not over heat.
I tow our 5th wheel alot to,and like you my temp comes up on long pulls. But the hottest I have ever seen it was when we were in Colorado, and it got to 205 according to my edge display. What temp does your light come on? what does the gauge say?
system flush and new coolant.
I am sure it is a heat rejection problem when I am in a long hard pull boost at 30 psi pyro 700 if the pull is long enough or if I am moving to slow and not enough ram air into the rad it will over heat. It frustrates me, the truck has the power but the rad can't keep up to the heat the engine produces.

I do not have a digital gauge just the dash gauge and the light will come on "CHECK GAUGES" and the coolant temp gauge is what I would asume is 225 to 230.
WOW never had mine do that before.Do you know whether or not your fan is kicking on or not? If its getting that hot it might not be.
Yes fan works well, can hear it engage. If I watch the temp gauge in a long pull most of the time it will hold the temp until I crest the hill but if it is longer than 4 miles boost 30, rpm 2800 speed 50 to 60 mph it will overheat. I did notice if the ambient temp is below 20 celcius it will n ot overheat which brings me back to the thought that a larger rad may help.
I honestly dont know.I've pulled some long grades before and it did warm up but nothing like what your describing.2800 rpms is an awful lot to me,but if thats what it takes then thats what it takes.Maybe some one else will chime in and help you out.Maybe you do need a larger radiator,I have no idea who makes one though.

EGT never hotter than 800 degrees. It is suposed to be warm here this weekend and we will be heading out with 5ver only no quads I will see what it does. Last week we came home in 15c weather and I was able to pull in OD with no issues, so we will see.
It really has me thinking that if it is over 25c it will make it over heat, this time I will record how long thaty hill is and take my Raytek infared gun and check the temp with that to check to see if the gauge is correct.
