nitto tread wear discrepancy

why are there SOOOOO many different reports regarding tread wear of Nitto terra grapplers? Was there a change in compound? Are those that get great mileage driving with an egg under the foot, and tho others with a lead weight on top? Whats the deal?

Yes, all of that. Road surface, weight carried, towing, driving style, ionflation pressures, etc, etc, etc. All of these will have a significant impact on wear.

Same with Toyo AT's. Mileage claims are all over the map. The new Trail Grapplers would be next for me but alas,no 285-75-17's forecast.

Not sure. I purchased a set of Terra Grapplers and have 24k on them and they are almost gone. I got over 50k on the stock Mich's tires and could have gone longer. Not real happy with the Nitto's.

My Terra's had about 40k on them when I replaced them. They are a darn good tire. Good traction in snow/rain. I could have gotten more out of them IF I would have rotated them more. Started to get uneven wear but it was totally my fault. I'd say rotate them every 5000 miles religiously and you should get more than me and adjust tire pressure as needed to help with wear. I ran them TOO HIGH almost the whole time (70+lbs)...

rotated every 5-7 thousand miles I got 42,000 out of mine--285/70/17's load range E. Dont have alot of complains except for thorn resistance. I had constant slow leaks even with graphite in the tires. I wont buy them again.
