Moving AFC housing-more or less?
I live near sea level but tow my 5th wheel in the mountains. When I get up in altitude 4k and up, the black smoke rolls out badly.
I moved the AFC housing back about 1/8" to help lower the smoke and my EGT's. Did I do the right thing?
Thanks.

Depends on when you're seeing the black smoke. Moving the AFC adjusts off boost fueling. By sliding it towards the firewall you limit the amount of fuel injected during low or no boost conditions. If you're in the mountains and pulling a hill with boost and are getting a lot of black smoke, then you want to slide the torque plate towards the firewall to limit on boost fueling. So taking off from a stop = AFC, pulling a hill on boost = torque plate. I guess your air filter is in good shape? How much smoke are we talking?

Hard to describe. The words "smoke screen" and "a hell of a lot" come to mind. Once I accellerate to a speed where I'm at 2000-2500 RPM it appears to be very faint. I moved the AFC this weekend and it seems like my low end torque suffered.
