1st on the agenda is finding a new job. Then I have a few projects that I need to get done on the truck. My exhaust manifold cracked and I hope to replace it with one of the new stainless tubular headers. I will also be selling my Sledpuller 66 charger and buying a 62/71/13SS in preparation for twins. I need to get some new nozzles ordered for my water/meth set-up and get it cranked up and running before hay hauling season gets here. Always something.

Don't want to put up with the DOT, and I don't have a semi right now either. And who wants to drive a semi when my dodge will do the job just fine.

Gear Jammer
03-09-2009, 06:02 PM
[laugh][laugh][laugh][laugh][laugh][laugh][laugh][laugh][laugh][laugh] I sure DOT wouldn't hassle you in a pickup with a 48' trailer either. I am sure your dodge would do the job I would just like to have the extra power that a big truck would have.

Been there done that. Who said 48 I'm looking for a 53' to pull 44' deck 9' neck = 53'. If your in a semi you have to stop at the scales in a pickup you can drive by if your private, unless Barney is on duty. I've hauled lots of private stuff on the 2 53' trailers I had in the past and never got stoped. Power is nice but manuverability and being mobile with a pickup when you drop the trailer is very nice, not that you can't get by with a semi. After I sold my semi I never want to do it that way again, in a pickup but not a semi.

hoffdog
03-09-2009, 09:51 PM

I don't doubt that. People would look at me like I was nuts when I was just pulling a double stacked 41 foot triple axle. [coffee]

puffsmokeonya
03-10-2009, 09:33 AM
our biggest round bail load was 30 bails on a 40ft trailor @ 1000 lbs each. behind dads truck.

Tree DR
03-10-2009, 02:43 PM
The last 53' did have a deck over the neck so 53' of deck. I can't remember how many bales I used to put on it double stacked. I was up in Canada and some people drove by video tapeing my empty rig, to bad I didn't have a 40' sea/land container on it.
I was just talking to a guy about useing his 40' 3 axel for hauling some trucks to TS.

Callin BS til I see a picture.

Tree DR
03-10-2009, 07:06 PM
I don't know that I ever took a picture. No the bale didn't weight more than 700lbs if I remember correctly. It wasn't the weight because 35 bales weren't that heavy 24500aprox. The size of it was what got your attention. Going 300 mi with it got lots of people a chance to pop some eyes out.

Pack Mule
03-10-2009, 08:05 PM
that's a heckuva load. 53ft trailer i'd guesstimate you had close to 55 or 60. and puff, they we're 1100 and 1200lb. and ya figure 55 at 700lb that's 38,500 or so. then add trailer at approx 9500 ya got around 48,000lb. which isn't to shabby. ours we guesstimated to be around that to 53,000lb. they will pull it for sure. mike, didn't you tell us a story about seeing a red dually hauling a white peterbilt one saturday?? it was our first meeting at bass pro.

Tree DR
03-10-2009, 08:47 PM
34 bales x 700lbs + truck and trailer about 39k. Average with my 30ft + 9ft top deck with square bale averageing 75lbs was 34k and heavy as 42k once that was going 300mi. Never had a problem stoping with vac/hydrolic DISK brakes on two 12k axels
Never got stoped and that was over a period of 3 years hauling about 3mo each year 3-4 loads a week.

mcoleman
03-11-2009, 09:31 AM
Yep, he was headed down 65 towards Arkansas with a peterbuilt on a gooseneck running 60 mph at least. What's a Pete weigh? 17000 lbs. We usually haul 21 to 22 bales on that 41 footer. I haul 18 on the current trailer I use unless I'm making full size bales. I can make a 6X6 with my baler. And they supposedly can weigh 1700. I've never weighed one but I do know they are harder to handle and move around with my tractor and the people I do hay for can't even pick them up.

Gear Jammer
03-11-2009, 03:21 PM
I guess my question is why not get a semi or even a single axle tractor. These "pickups" were not designed for this. It is not safe plain and simple. What's the GVRW for a pickup? Lets see some pictures of all this....

coreydr2003
03-11-2009, 06:14 PM
Hell i have pics of our 96 farm truck loaded with 70 bales, I just had to throw that in there hahahaha......

mcoleman
03-12-2009, 09:01 AM
My truck handled the 22 bales easy. With brakes on 2 of the 3 axles I had no braking issues. The shorter trailer I use now also has brakes on both axles. My 4 horse slant load w /LQ also has brakes on both axles but it's only a 30 footer. I've never found anything unsafe about any of them and there's no sense in spending money on something if you only use it a couple weeks out of the year. You see diesel pickups going up and down the road I live on with 18 and more bales on a daily basis. Nobody thinks anything of it. With brakes on more than one axle and something other than an el cheapo 50.00 controller for the brakes there just aren't any issues.

hell i didn't know we was having a d*** measuring contest. i like to hear about some of the stuff people haul that's a bit ridiculous. i have a picture i'll put on here for those wanting to call b.s. it's square bale though. mike, that was my dad you saw that day. a day cab pete isn't very heavy though. less than a backhoe, d4, or road bore machine we haul around. and that would be a good move if Prime changed to the dodge instead of the pete. things would be less expensive to fix.

I've got a picture of a load of square bales somewhere. Oh and yes I had brakes to stop with. Two 12k axels with vac/hyd DISK brakes. After I loaded the farmer I picked the hay up from was asking how I stoped so I said ride to the scales with me. Got going about 60 and hit the brakes, his only comment was "I hope no one was behind you".
