Unhappy Lost my VP today.

Replaced the APPS yesterday, because of the P0122 code. The truck ran great until about an hour ago. I was on my way home, cruising at around 75, when the truck lost power and the CEL came on. Immediately drove to the nearest Autozone ... P0216 ... bummed! This'll be the third VP this truck has seen. Anybody got any advice on this one?

If I replace the VP, rather than trading in the truck ( ), I'll be doing the install myself. I guess there's different versions of the VP. Which do you think is best?

Thanks in advance.

I guess now is the best time for a best VP44... something that was designed better that stock. I no expert in this subject yet... But I would say it time to look at hotrod VP44 pumps. I think they are designed better than stock. IMHO...

Do you use any fuel additives?

What has your fuel fuel pressure been?

I use RBP fuel additive. It's a fairly new additive (couple of years), from a local company. It's been tested by farmers up north. They've had there best success with the Cummins engine. You can check out the product on their website: http://www.rollingbigpower.com/

My fuel pressure has been stellar! 14 @ idle, 12+ @ cruise and 11 @ WOT. I've got the Vulcan big lines too! Relocated the LP back by the tank ... what else was there to do?

Is there a VP guru amongst us? Please point me in the right direction for a good, strong pump! I have read that all of the newer pumps have the same electronics, HR or not, is this true?

I feel for you brother I will be changing out another VP on my truck this week also.
The only other thing I can offer is perhaps its got to do with the electronics of the different trucks? Some go ten times the distance and time of others? For me I just cant take it any more and am currently looking for " The Holly Grail + a foot and a half longer bed " That I can put my twins and other goodys on

I'd always heard good things about Cummins, but I think they were referring to the 12 valve. Since I've owned this POS, it's cost me a fortune. I am constantly fixing the darn thing. I wonder if it would make sense to sell it and get a 12 valve ... that's a no-brainer!

And to think, the only reason I didn't get a Ford was they have a problem with the CPS.

1999, what color is the pump that failed and where did you get it? For awile at the dealers for 98-99 the "black beauty" is what they sent out for installs. It was a "REMAN IN CZECH" and I had my share of "comebacks" with them.

I would send this one you take out to a rebuilder that can tell you what went wrong with it. and go from there

It's not a black VP. We burn #2 here in California. Yes, this is the second VP to go south. It was installed, before I got the truck, at 96K. I'm not sure if there is a rebuilder in my area. I can't afford to have the truck down for more than a day, so I'll have to get a rebuilt. Anybody had success with any particular rebuilt VP?

They are ALL Rebuilt, no price breaks pretty much anywhere. Best I think you can do is Like $1,150 plus core. If you are planning on keeping the truck it would be a shame not to get one of the "upgrade" pumps. I thnk I read where the other pumps are in $1,400- $1,600 range?
Just to clairify, you will be on your third pump, meaning that this is the second one to crap out?
Good Luck.

Yes, this is the second one in 131K!

I read in the archives that the hotrod vp's are crapping out too, is this true? I don't mind spending a little more for an upgraded pump, but only if it's going to give me some longevity. Anybody with any experience on these?

Ok, a friend of mine called me with the number to a local company that rebuilds them. $1085 to rebuild my pump. Includes new PSU (computer), three day turnaround. Looks like I'd be without the truck for a week, doing it this way. Also, he has a friend that can install this thing in a 1/2 hour??? Is this possible? What's a realistic time for someone who is mechanically inclined, but has never installed one before?

Anyone know of a company in Souther California that may have a unit in stock?

Piperca hopefully you can find out whats failing by going to the rebuilder I just sent my pump back asking for anwsers about what broke on the old one more and more companys are getting the equipment to rebuild the VPs so I am sure we will be learning a lot more about these pumps I have seen some photos from bosch of damage they claim is from poor fuel.about the 1/2 hour install ya drop the key in the case and try 8 hours! Good luck
