Leveling kit for 2WD?

I think I solved my front end noise problem ... rubbing from the tires on the wheel well liners. The tires are only 265/75/16's, but I think I have a bit of sag in the front end. Has anyone tried a leveling kit on their 2WD? If so, which manufacturer would you use and what size lift? I see there are several sizes: 1", 1.5", 2" & 2.5". What would be the best way to determine which size I needed?

Ok, I measured from the road surface to the top of the wheel arch. The front is 34" and the rear is 38". I have found a 2 1/2" kit, but it requires aftermarket control arms. I think this is the route I need to go????? Come on, I'm sure there's someone out there who's contemplating/done this????

I didn't know anybody made aftermarket control arms for a 2WD......

Don Thuren just did a 2WD 2500 recently....you might try calling him. IIRC, He did 2" or 3" custom springs and shocks, no control arms. He said there was plenty of adjustment left for camber/caster with the new springs....

Thanks, Cowhand, I sent Don Thuren an email; hopefully he'll be able to point me in the right direction.

Ok, I got some info. from Don Thuren.

He's recommending replacing the coil springs; has anyone done this? I was thinking about ordering the springs 2" longer than stock, what do you think?

Surely there's someone out there who's changed out their saggy coils!

That's the info. he gave me (sent them an email), but I was looking for someone who might have done this, or something similar. I want to make sure that I'm correct in adding 2" to the stock length. I don't want the front to be higher than the rear ... if anything, I'd like it slightly lower.

Just tell CSS that you want the front to sit 2" higher than stock. You can specify a softer spring rate if you like, which will make the unloaded height of the spring higher. CSS uses a different diameter wire than stock, so simply adding 2" to the stock spring length doesn't usually work.

Best bet is to call them and discuss what you want to end up with.....Don might be able to give you the spring height and rate. I believe Don had to do something to get the right shocks in there too, I'd suggest calling him and discussing it in detail. He does nice work, it might be worth the time and money to take a drive up to Santa Barbara and have Don do it.....

I think this might be the one thing I've done to this truck that the wife will not object to ... considering the location.

Is "Don" with CoilSprings.com???

I sent him an e-mail about this and haven't heard anything back...been almost a week.

Are you guys telling me that he DOES make a spring for a 2wd, or that he CAN, and that he knows alot about the stock stuff as well??

Thanks,
Chris

Here's a link to Don's site: http://www.thurenfabrication.com

He doesn't make the coil springs, he makes the trucks look pretty ... check out his site! Don manufactures suspension parts for 4x4's, generally.

I got a quote from Spring Works. They want $365 plus S&H, which I find a little stiff. I am still waiting for quotes from Coil Springs and Customsuspension.com to see where I am at with this. If this runs me $400 just for the parts, what's it going to cost me for the install??? I may have to do it myself, if I want that exhaust and intake. This hidden cost stuff is cutting into my mod money!

CSS coils shouldn't be anywhere near that....CORed got his 2.5
coils for his 4X4 for less than $200 plus shipping.

Don doesn't make the coils, he gets them through CSS. What Don does do is make the stuff work like it should. Not only is he a top notch fabricator, he has a pretty good grasp of suspension geometry and chassis dynamics.

We spent about 1/2 hour on the phone the other day discussing the market for 2500 2WD lifts.....he's looking at putting something together soon but he's pretty dang busy making track bars right now. I talked to him today and he's getting ready to head up to Lake Shasta for his bachelor party, so Id imagine he's pretty busy.

He's also making the transition from full time day job/part time fabricator to full time fabricator, so response times and parts delivery will get better soon.

Bear with him....he'll get back to you soon.
