Intank fuel pump

I haven't been on the sight for awhile. Well, my lift pump is finally dieing after 97,000 miles.
The dealer is telling me that they now have a new style that goes into the tank.
Is it any good? There might be an old thread somewhere but I'm kind of swamped right now to go hunting.

I have the in-tank setup installed about 6 months ago under warranty. If I could go back then I would not have had it installed. It is a piece of junk. Mine only put out about 3-4 psi at an idle and 0 at WOT. I have heard some guys say that havent had as low of pressure as me. So you could be lucky and get a good one. But then when the in-tank pump goes out you have to drop you tank to change it .

The in tank LP has been proven time and time again to flow noticably less fuel than the block mounted Carter it was intended to replace (hence the lower overall operating pressures). In my opinion (as with many others), the in tank LP conversion is not a suitable replacement and down right useless if you have any fueling mods over and above stock.

the dealer ship just replaced my lift pump with the intank version and I have noticeable loss of power. Looks like i'm gonna have to install the walbro pump. Just didn't want to spend the money at the moment. Any instruction around on how to install the walbro?

You might also want to look at the FASS systems. Our mechanic friends tell us its the only system that they will install now, especially due to the Dodge fix in tank pump (or should I say Dodge NO FIX in tank pump).

The 95gph pump only is pretty close to the price of paying the dealer to install the in tank pump, but you get much better fuel delivery with the FASS.

Either way an aftermarket pump is the only way to fix our fuel deilvery problems!

relocate stock Carter LP to frame

There is a Dodge mechanic here in Oregon who has worked on only Dodge diesels for years and his advice (which I took) is to relocate a stock Carter LP pump on the frame as close to the fuel tank as you can. This puts the pump UNDER the fuel so it can always have good prime. Easy to do, you can use the stock mount off the engine and solves all the LP problems.

Oem Lift Pump:

Vulcan LP relocation kit:

Will pretty much solve all problems (provided you have an incab fuel pressure guage)...

I've never had a problem starting my truck with the fuel pressure at 16+ psi. I dont know at what pressure the hard starts start. But bumping the starter...letting the fuel pressure rise to its peak (about 1 second) and starting it well into the LP cycle it starts up like normal.

I have everything I need to replace the intank with a Walbro, just have to find time to do it. Hopefully on the 8th I can get it done.
