Infinity Stereo CD 2nd Gen

Think of buying a 2nd Gen CD Stereo for my '99 and '02. Then replacing the factory speakers for aftermarket descent ones. My stereo is poor. I need music back in my truck for long trips. Anyone have this setup or had this setup. How is it. Is is worth getting it used. Or if anyone has 1 or 2 used let me know PM.
I just need the factory look though. Without a CD player on long trips it sucks!

I think the head unit is pretty decent. The infinity speakers just don't sound very good IMO. My plan is to update the speakers eventually as $$ allow.

I would like to know some info on this also. I have a 95 with the old cassette player and would like to replace it with a CD deck. My speakers sound OK and I would just like to replace the head unit with a CD unit.

I would imagine if there was any problem it would be the factory wiring connector. The head unit would handle everything else, tape/cd etc. so there wouldn't be any extra wiring involved. However, I do know mine has the small amps on each front door speaker. There's about 6 wires goin into each one.

I did find this site for replacement radios but don't know what replacement units I can use. May just go with an aftermarket unit and be done with it.

If you ditch the factory amps and straight wire the speakers to the deck, it'll sound better. I don't know if the stock stereo is powerful enough though.

I've got the infinity system and it's only OK. I would replace everything in a heartbeat if I could get a new system to work with my steering wheel controls. Near as I can tell, there isn't anything out there that fits and works with all the harness controls. There's also some weird amp issues that I recall....

The steering wheel controls can be kept while changing the head unit by using an adapter. There are at least 2 I know of. I chose the one that was dip switch settings selectable. It cost around $100. I am trying to figure out what is needed to swap out the front speakers. Do I need amps too, or what?

I have the RAZ radio setup. AM/FM/CD/3 band equalizer with infinity speaker system. From what I read in the service manual, for the front speakers there are "integral dual 30 watt amplifiers. The total available power of the premium speaker system is about 120 watts." I think that is the blue wire off the back of the receiver. The front speakers are 6x9 speakers and the rear ones are 5.25".... What are the adapters that can adapt to the steering wheel controls? Where did you get yours?

I got it from Crutchfields. It's a Soundgate unit. There is another from PAC something, but you have to program it. If it loses power you have to reprogram it. The Soundgate is dip switch setting selectable. I've had mine for 2 years & no problems with it.
