Industrial Injection SPS62

What are people's thoughts of this turbo for the truck in my sig? I'm leaning toward this charger due to the fact I can retain the turbo-mount Jake Brake most other performance turbos won't allow me to use. The truck is my daily driver and sees semi-regular trailer duty tugging anywhere between 2,000-12,000 lbs. The stocker just isn't very happy with the hot juice, spiking 43-44 lbs of boost and EGT's hitting 1350* before I hit 6th gear. I don't want a race car and really don't care about big dyno numbers, though I can't help but wonder what kind of hp/torque a setup like this would make. Thanks for any replies!

I'd stay with the SP62 with a 12 or a 14 housing. Wth just a Juice, It'll probably be the best option. Be prepared to make some clearance in the firewall to fit the Jake vacuum canister as the turbo will move everything back an inch, easy.

Just went through this on an 06. I've used the SP62/HT2B on several 03 and up trucks with good results overall.

I was considering the PS62, but II recommended the SPS62 due to the "hot" upgrade on the Juice, which on level 5 is rated at 150hp / 400 lb.ft. for the 03-04 Cummins vs. 100hp / 250 lb.ft. for the regular juice.

Why are you concerned about 1350*F on a HPCR?

Thats what im thinking.

You cant spool a SPS62 on stock fueling. It will be dog until the juice sees 174* water temp.

Laws of physics I guess. Pistons are made of aluminum and aluminum starts to melt at 1220.66 degrees F. The temps would get quite a bit hotter than 1350, but the Juice/attitude has to de-fuel (by approx 50%) to keep it under that point. I may be a little overly **** about it, but walking to work sucks. Will stock fueling come close to lighting a "standard" PS62?

Because that's not what he's peaking out at. Sounds like they would go significantly higher if he stayed in it in 6th gear.

Try setting it back to stock fueling and see what your peak EGT's are. I bet you can hit higher than 1350 with stock fueling, so that really isn't that high. 1400-1450 is probably a more realistic safe limit for these trucks.

Didn't someone on here have to switch to the 62/13/65 in stainless because the of spooling issues? Correct me if I'm wrong, I thought HTT was recommending a 65mm turbine wheel because the 71mm was having problems with spooling up.

i've driven a truck that has the 71 wheel and just runs the smarty and it has no problem with spool but i didnt read were they sent it in and got the 65 wheel.

i guess it all depends on what you want

I think you guys are talking about me that went from the 64/71/13 to a 64/65/13. As you can see by my sig, the 65 wasn't much better at all.

Actually, the pistons are made of an aluminum alloy that melts at a much higher temperature, with cooling oil jets sprayed on the crowns from underneath.

Additionally, EGTs are merely a representation of the conditions at the face of the piston crown - keeping the timing in check is just as important!

In any case, sounds as if your Juice is defueling to prevent any "walking to work"...

We typically see 1600*F during WOT runs w/aftermarket fuel, but max for towing has been ~1450-1500 for 20 minutes (stock fueling).

I thought that was you. The 65mm didn't help that much or are you just being sarcastic?

i can fairly quickly spool my sps62 with a quad race, faster with a smarty, and almost as fast as stock with them both.
with stock fueling, if you get into it, it will light ok, you have to keep the fuel up to get her going.
it will definately cool down the egt's.depends what you are wanting. i needed mine for high power towing, so i wanted max boost/cooling running down the road. i do not intend to drag race, so slightly quicker spool was not needed.

I was being serious. The 65 was almost no different on my truck. Keep in mind it was the same turbo used with both wheels. I think it was just a bad one or it just didn't jive with my truck.

FWIW, even Nathan (from MPI) commented on how my truck seems to run hotter than normal. I've noticed a sudden increase in, what seems to be, injector noise. Maybe all my issues are due to a bad injector(s)?
