Help! Rear Seat is Stuck Up!
Help! Rear Seat is Stuck Up!
I have a 2001 Quad-Cab and I flipped the rear seat up this evening to get some stuff out from the cargo tray, and when I went to put it back down, it wouldnt budge. The Drivers side handle does nothing, and the passengers side handle will spin a complete 360.
Im supposed to go to a party tonight as a D.D. but its gonna be kinda hard to haul drunks home if my rear seat is stuck up.
Anyone ever seen this before? Is there any kind of release or emergency disconnect (like the one on the tail gate that is now my primary method of opening/shutting my 'gate)?

I think Yours is similar to My 97, Mine never worked either a 100000 times, I find if U push the seat into the backrest hard and then go for the handle, it always works for Me. Seems as if the mechanism catches 1 side and not the other, so a good push on the drivers side and then swing Your handle.....peace.

Thanks for the advice. My buddy and I actually ended up undoing the seat covering on the bottom (there is a press in seam, if you undo the velcro on each side, you can pull the fabric apart without tearing anything) and I reached up inside and found the operating cable. It is either stretched or off a guide... I didnt really have time to investigate but I gave it a yank and the seat came right down. Its 415 am and I just got back from that party and brought 6 people home safe and sound with me.
Well, I finally pulled the rear seat out of the truck because the drivers side rear door stopped working (looks like bottom latch froze up). I needed to get it out so I could get the inner door panel out and investigate. I have the seat apart on the basement floor right now and it looks like the cable in there is just stretchd out. I looked it up and down, and theres no tensioner mechanism. Any idea on how I could take some slack out of that darn cable?
Cut the cable in the middle, loop each cut end and clamp with cable clamps from the hardware store. Then use a turnbarrel with hooks on each end hooked into each loop, again from the hardware store. If you could find a turnbarrel with just eyes on each end then you could just thread the cable through each eye and clamp with the cable clamps.
