It ha maybe been in the high twenties a few times in the morning? But rarely even in the high 30's actually.

Thanx.

Absolutely not.

Just the other day, as an example, I went out and started mine in the morning at 5000' elevation and at about 15* (it had been down to 10* that night). Just reached in and turned the key with no waiting and it started on the third compression stroke. Weird because it usually turns over more than that!

So unless you will be somewhere that is more severe than that, you don't need the grid heater.

I have been starting my truck for the last month with out the grid heater. Some days it was in single digits. It is a bit smokey with the big injectors but it starts just like any other day.

Thanx guys. I need to order one I guess. I don't want to install my AFE horn, have the grid right there, and then not remove it.

Now to find one to order.
Thanx.

I wouldnt worry about it either but is there that much airflow to gain from removing it?? I mean it doesnt get much below upper 20s here in vegas but I took a trip to Panguitch UT last year and it was -12 degrees in the morning. I guess if you dont plan any winter trips to Nor Cal or go anywhere cold you wont need it but why risk it?

Ive started mine in Tahoe when it was 11 deg with out a problem. My buddies 01 with big sticks started w/out his in same weather.

Yes the difference between the grid and a nice spacer is worth it.

I also have mine removed, I have started my truck at below freezing without any mishaps. I havent tried to start it at any really cold temps, but about -5 celcius hasnt been any problem. And I only have 1 battery too

I gutted the heater grid in my 96 about 8 years ago...never had a problem starting. On mine, I just unbolted the elements and put the studs back in the block....never had a problem with it and it was free.
