Good Find or what ?
Hey guys I have 96 cummins , I was planing on finding a 94 and up to do a conversion to a suburban .
Today I was out with the 96 a guy stopped to check out my exhaust stack , we got talking and he told me about a guy with a 1st gen cummins , out of a 93 or 91 , he was not sure .
I called the guy and stopped to look at the motor ... I was told the head , injection pump and turbo , vacume pump . Truck had 350k .
Motor is a pretty grungie but still fairlly clean in some areas ...LOL
I got the complete motor , less the one starter , I was doing a stick and the motor is out of a auto .
I got all the wiring , computers , and I did not even need the tanny one , intercooler , air box .
The sum of $500 ... but I did not hear it run .
Is 350K alot for the 1st gen ?
What is the basic differences between the 1st and second .
I have a NV4500 on its way with the 2nd gen backing plate , are the 1st the same bolt pattern on the block .
Thanks

you need the adapter plate to bolt the 4500 to the 1gen. you also need the bellhousing and the hydros if im not mistaken. i know personally people with 300+ K on them and they run like tops.

Looks the motor is going to need a good cleaning but be for that I will take some pic's and write the areas I think the seals or gaskets that are leaking .
I allready have a 2nd gen adapter , new 2nd bell , clutch slave cylinder mated to a dodge HD4500 all the up grades connected to a 205 right side drop and had the tail speedo cone changed to a GM 205 ... its going in a 90suburban .
Thanks

The 93 in my sig just hit 350k and the IP went bad on the guy while driving. truck just shut off, won't restart. original trans and everything, he drove it daily and said it had lots of power
But i'd say no, 350k is nothing to be scared of. why was it pulled though?? truck rotted out? I see your in pa... theres a few of us PA first gen guys. Where you at in PA ?

I'm in Bucks County , it was just the engine , harness , intercooler , its a complete package , I even got the speedo that says 350K .
I'll pull the front cover off and check the KDP ... check the valves for adj and do the rear main seal ... just the basic's and get it fired up on the ground .
For that price I could not pass it up .

I think you did very well, if it runs you did really well. Yea change out the front and rear main seals, do the kdp, replace the freeze plugs, and any other gasket that might leak after you run it and see that it's worth spending some money on.
