Fuel filter change made easy
Fuel filter change made easy
Just did an oil and filter change, puke bottle cleaning today and Fuel Filter was the dreaded final step.
Things i did to make it easy
Loosen fuel filter cap and raise filter enough that the fuel dumps back into canister.
Removed filter cap and filter laying it in a plastic bag to avoid drips.
Drained old fuel and crud from filter into a 2 liter bottle with a small peice of tubing attached to the stock fuel/water drain tube.
Filled filter canister with fresh fuel and used a small clean lint free rag to wipe down inside and bottom of filter canister.
Drained that fuel out and filled again with clean fuel and a once of 2 cycle oil for lube incase of air lock.
Removed and replaced filter on filter cap.
Slowley returned filter to canister and tightened down to specs in manual (25 ft. lbs.) with torque wrench.
Cycled the lift pump 3 times with the bump the starter trick. (fellow in the bay next to me thought i had a bat issue untill i told him what was up)
Checked for leaks.
Started truck and let it idle for about 5 mins while checking for fuel or oil leaks.
Fp up to 15 lbs from 9 to 10 lbs WOT 3rd gear before the change (post filter).
All in all a nice 1 hour in the MWR Auto craft shop bay on post for lunch. Best part was only 4 dollars for the bay time on a drive on lift, oil disposal/drain pan was easy to use and not a single drip on the floor of the bay so no dry sweeping needed.
Now to go for a drive and enjoy the smell of fresh oil out the breather bottle.
