My dealer replaced both my front U joints on my truck a little better than a year ago and they are shot once again. They stuffed the Dodge product in last time so I won't do that again. I found a set of Spicer units I'm having them put in on thursday. I hope I can get longer than 14 months out of them?

The dealer wants $1250.00 each side parts and labor...........do you think that's to much?????

thats a total rip off. i just put spicers in my truck as i went through 2 factory sets. the spicer joints do feel alot better, the seals really hold tight. they were around 60 bucks per joint and it took me 4 hours per side to do u-joints and ball joints taking my sweet time. id look for another place to do them. it should be around 2 hours labor to change each side for just the u joint.

I found another place to do them for $280 each side if I supply the Joint.

Its really simple to do and you don't need any specialty tools to do it yourself. Pic a saturday and go after them.. Like ISB07 said a afternoon and not rushing..

I work on my truck when I have time to spare but right now I am working on another project. No time to do the truck. Sometimes it's cheaper to pay someone to do it.

Wow I wish I knew a place that was $60 an hour. Shops in my area haven't charged $60 an hour since 1978.

oh, i c you're in canada. there is a place that i take my stuff sometimes that charges $49.50 an hour. asked him why that price, said "that's what it takes to keep the doors open" ASE certified and all. the truck shops here are right around 60-70 an hour

In my area shops are $95 to $120 an hour. Don't break down in British Columbia.

I bougth precision greaseables for the 05, after the 3rd set of stockers went west with chicken george. Don't think I'll be having too many issues. And, if yours have been done before, the hubs will come off reasonably easily, which drastically shortens the time you need to do them in your driveway.

Guys.. teh secret to getting the hub off is a short socket and a short extension you dont mind cutting.. Loosen the bolt holding the hub on stick the cheapy socket and extension on the bolt head with the cheap extension cut to fit in the knuckle. Have your truck securly jacked up.. Get someone to turn the steering wheel with the truck running. do this a couple times on the bolts and the hub will pop off..

They wanted 60 bucks just to change a u joint at a shop in edmonton. my wife looked at me and said go buy a nice press.. It will pay for itself.

wow. they do them here at fleet pride for about $25 each.

i dont even use a press on u joints, i torch the center out bang the 4 caps with a hammer clean up the yoke with emory cloth and use a vise to set the new ones in. ive tried with a press on a old ford and i ended up bending the yoke in around a 1/8 inch because the cap was rusted in there so bad.

22,000 miles on precision 464 greasable axle u-joints. I grease every 7500 when I rotate the tires. No problems so far.
