Found This Interesting
I know locally my gas station has ULSD already... I've been using 2 cycle oil in every tank and had no problems so far. No leaks or VP44 problems... Knocking on wood (hard and loud!)... But the engine doesn't seem to knock too loud anymore...
I've been running oil mixed with Power Service additive for years now. I wanted to try the TCW-3 2 cycle outboard oil and see if it really quiets the engine down.
My truck has 161,000 on it. I've only replaced one lift pump and that was at 95,000. No VP-44 yet, I found some wood.
My point is both the VP44 and LP are rotary pumps and require lubrication where the shaft ends ride. Can't really call it a pillow block bearing but never the less its a bearing surface. The oil in the additive in my opinion makes the differance. I use 8 oz of 10-30 or tranny fluid or what ever 50/50 with the Power Service Diesel additive at each fill up. Since the new Ultra Low Diesel has been out, I've increase the Oil portion of the mix and may go to a 12 or 16oz portion later as things develope with problems created by the new fuel.
We should send our repair bills to who ever man dated the change.

Dave, I would re-think running tranny fluid in the fuel tank, IMHO...

I've been reading on the over the road truckers websites that now that colder temps are here many drivers are finding that ULSD gels at a higher temperature than the old diesel. Solution has been to double the rate of anti-gel treatment.
Key words in the Chevron article are "it is anticipated that only a very small
fraction of the vehicles may be affected."

last two times i went to fill up the dodge, tried 2 different stations both just switched to ULSD this week. First station where the hose met the nozzle it was leaking so I turned it off and went inside to talk to them. They said the new ULSD is wiping out the o-rings in the nozzles and they had to order all new ones. Went lastnight to another station, same thing just not as bad of a leak.....
