I'm going ahead with a DTT torque convertor, a 'billet' (machined) Flex plate w/grade9 bolts was recommended. These are $550, so plenty more than a 2nd gen ~$100. I figure it is worth a bit to avoid breaking a 2nd Gen, and having to pull tranny and transfer case to repair. BUT... I reckon something else (beside flex plate) might break probably something more expensive
How common is it to break a 2nd Gen FP ?
I don't have power mods yet... they will be limited to 12cm housing, gov spring , pump mods and BHAF
I tow 15,000# - 20,000# + truck ~9,000 = 26-28k average GCVW
slow, but steep hills Also do some freeway trips, but the inclines are digestible on federal highways

There is no doubt that the billet unit will all you'll ever need.
I am currently running another option in my DTT setup...I've installed the "heavy duty" flexplate from PDR. It is heavier than the 2nd gen unit as well.
Personally I think you couldn't go wrong with either option, it's all about the $$$ in the budget.
OH, I am putting down between 300RWHP and 375RWHP depending on hard I push the pump and whether I use the max fueling settings and "drugs"...so far the PDR flexplate has not shown any sign of stressing....

I run a PDR SFI flex plate. Broke one stock one before I bought the SFI approved unit and have never had any problems since.

This is my old flex plate to many 360's

I drive this ***** right out of the wet box all the time and let it hook till the tourque converter sk---weeks..
I have over one year of 1/4 mile racing on this tranny built by Kings tranny in Seattle and atleast 2 sets of tires from burn outs. The flex plate right now is the least of my worries...
