ECM question

On some other post that I can't seem to find now.

Someone was talking about the defueling that occurs in our trucks in the lower gears, I noticed they had a manual tranny in their signature.

Does our ECM know what gear we are in with a manual????

I would never have guessed that it would make any difference to it.

Why??

At first I was thinking it would need some sort of sophisticated sensores or something to be able to tell what gear, but then obviously it could just use a function of Vehicle speed/Engine RPM. both of which the ECM monitors.

Just curious.......... Is this true?

Believe you are correct. It's too much difference between speed sensor and engine speed....that's how it was explained to me. I don't believe the problem is specific to autos.
