Did i kill my clutch?????

Ok, so i was driving around with a friend. you know its not going to be good when you start out like that. Well anyways we were driving down the road and i got on it to show him what it had. remember i am only stock. So he told me to stop and take off in third, he also told me to get my rpms up so i did. not knowing what i was doing, it didn't sould like it would be good but i did it anyways. now i let off the clutch and my truck didn't move very fast but my rpms were around 2500 truck getts up to speed and i stop to try it again cause he told me i did it wrong. when i stopped there was a smell and the only time i have smelled this before is when i drive the concrete truck come to a stop and i smell the brakes. it was about the same smell. So my question is did i mess it up and how bad? i am about to get a new clutch so i can start to bomb it out a little so i am not that worried. truck still drive like it did but i can still smell a little of the smell when i get out of it after driving. Thanks,

and yeah i know i am a dork for listening to him but you know how it is.

You should be fine as long as you dont do that a bunch. I slipped my sb ofe so bad once that it welded itself to the flywheel.

Sounds like you slipped it but I doubt you "damaged" anything. Clutches are made to slip....some.

it took me 4 hours by myself to do it. if yours is 2 wheel drive, about 20 minutes less work. the trans is very heavy(360#), so either rent a tranny jack, or use a big floor jack and a ratchet strap to keep it on there.
i did not disconnect my front driveshaft at the diff, i just ziptied it to the frame rail on the drivers side.

You should be OK. You may want to have the flywheel resurfaced(ground) when you replace the clutch.

i think i am getting a new flywheel with the clutch. do yall know some good brands other than SB. a friend of mine said he can get me one from G style performance that will do 1000 hp for $500. I think that is with a discount. Does that sound right or should i go ahead and get the SB from Larry?

1000hp? or ft lbs?
there is no way that sounds right. must be 1 heck of a clutch at one heck of a discount.
i would only go south bend, because of peter's service and support.

he told me 1000 hp he didn't say how much torque but i will ask he what brand and if it really is 1000 hp. and i know everyone here is on SB's side, but i'm just looking a the mone. I also know that alot of the time you get what you pay for and i don't want to get this one and then in a year have to get new one from SB anyways i will find out what brand and see what yall say. Thanks,

Sounds to me like you just burnt/slipped the clutch a bit. I take off in 3rd every now and again as well. I'm sure your clutch isn't about to explode, how many miles you got on it?

When you go to change out the clutch look at the flywheel and make sure you don't have any hot spots (spots where it looked like it's been burnt or heated up a lot).

If you don't want to do it, I know a guy who is a Dodge tranny Mech out of SA that does great work at a decent price.

FireRescue124, I did the same EXACT thing you did. Same ol' circumstances(bad influences). And the same thing happened, and the same smell...but that was about a year ago. Clutch is still holdin strong.

I slipped the clutch a couple times in my 06 3500 drw and it was just fine.
I put the crazy larry update on my TDPP and cooked 5th and 6th, the stock clutch couldn't hold it . I had a SB put in ,it wasn't cheap but it was well worth it .I could hammer down and not worry about my rpms going through the roof and the truck not movig

The last time we sled-pulled with the '05, a 4th LO launch filled one side of the arena with LUK clutch smoke - about 3 seconds worth
Had to wait a few moments until it cooled enough to grab again, but it's been holding fine since then - although engagement is a lot closer to the floor now!

We ran Zoom clutches pretty well in the musclecar wars, but I wouldn't put anything but a South Bend behind a CTD.
