Who is currently running Edge COMP/Smarty stack...

Hey guys, im getting ready to buy a smarty here, and i am just kinda curious as to just how much the smarty will effect my truck with the COMP box on it. I have used a smarty by itself, and i had good results, however i didnt really have it long enough to really evaluate it with my truck. So now im asking you guys, the owners of this stack, how you like it.

Basically, what id like to know is these things:
  • Pros
  • Cons
  • Fuel mieage gains/drops
  • Power output on various levels
  • Does smarty help or hurt power with COMP on
  • What level do you run smarty and comp on
  • Do you recommend this stack to another Cummins owner?
  • Are there other stacks that i could look into that will make more power

Thats all i can really think of for right now, however, if you have other info please feel free to give me that as well.

I have had an Edge comp for years, I upgraded it to a drag comp, then I stacked a super chip with it. I don't know actual numbers but it felt stronger and made more smoke. once at a pull we took the super chip off and down loaded a smarty, it did pull a little further but may not have had anything to do with it.

now I am running the drag comp stacked with a red line box, it is about as nasty as you can get with a VP.

my truck never did any better than 16mpg, I think it is worse now but I don't drive it on the street any more.

yeah, redlines are nasty, but they dont give you that much more HP, they only fuel really hard and cost an arm and a leg

From what I have read and understand when you stack the Smarty with an Edge Comp It gives you more bottom end fueling. I have never tried on but I have thought about purchasing one

I believe the FMS box is around a 60 hp upgrade, the redline adds another 100, which is the 160 that was mentioned above. If you use that stack and keep the pump wire hooked up you will have to use the smarty on a non-timing tune. Many users report better performance with the TST / Smarty stack. The smarty timing I think is a little more harsh that the edge? That's why more are using the TST for fuel and the smarty for added timing. Sombody correct me if I am wrong.

Well that is what I heard also. But I have tried both with the smarty and I like the drag comp in ez mode with the tst pm3. I still have the drag comp and the pm3 so I switch once in a while. My favorite combo is running the smarty on 8 drag comp in ez mode and tst where ever you feel you need it My best mileage has been from the smarty on odd #'s (Timing) with comp in ez mode which is more timing (I know you can't run 2 timing boxes) But when I run this combo I'm also not pulling a trailer and truck is not loaded. Just running down the highway this combo is great

60 HP? I have dynoed with only the drag comp and then with only the redline and the graphs lay right over one another except the redline goes on a little farther.

I put a pic of the dyno graph in my pic's

according to blue chips site the fms adds 100 rwhp and the red line adds 60 more than that. ive also thought about getting a smarty. what i want to know is it enough of a diff to justify 650.00? i would like to see a red line stacked with the comp for timing. or the new adreniline if it will fuel to 4,000.

hmmmmm, like i said, i ran a smarty alone on my truck last fall for a couple hours, and i was super impressed with it, id say defintly worth the 650. Plus you get ABS (tire size changer) and a code reader. Really wakes up the bommon end when you run it alone.

On a stock truck or close to stock, the smarty makes a huge difference. Definately worth it. The more mods you have the less of an effect it has. The drag comp will add fuel and power mid range to up top, the smarty gives it all she's got from the bottom to the mid range. If you are at the limit of your vp44, you will start to lose peak hp as you run the smarty higher and higher (with everything else maxed out).

I did a dyno run on my 01 with only my drag comp on 5x4 layed down 583 hp and 1301 ftlbs. At 2100 rpm it had 400 hp and 960 ft lbs. The next run I ran the smarty on #2 and ended up with 593 hp and 1340 ftlbs, however at 2100 rpm it was 500 hp and 1200(+) ftlbs.

So it just depends how you look at it, did I gain 10 hp or 100 hp? 39 ft lbs or 240 ftlbs?

With all the mods that people do to their truck, I think a smarty should be one of the first.

5.9 Excursion, those look like some real nice #'s for a VP truck. You obviously have some other pretty good mods? what turbo and injectors? head work and cam?

Stuckey, I do run the drag comp stacked with the redline. on the dyno she will pull just past 4000, and with a heck of a load at the sled pull it runs somewhere between 3700-3800. but that could all change with gearing, tires, track cond etc.

I like it, it works great when the redline dos not go into time out. But I cant wait to get the truck P-pumped.

I should take it out and try it but I still have the pulling blocks in on the rear.
I dont learn much on the street because when the turbo lights off good it just blows the rear tires off, maybe I will try to take it to a drag race and try it in 4wd. I am going to put on a new turbo and intercooler and then give it another run on the dyno, and hit it with a 200 shot of nitrous and see what happens.
